Rigoberta Menchú Tum is a K'iche' political and human rights activist from Guatemala. The 1992 Nobel Peace Prize recipient has dedicated her life to pursuing justice for indigenous groups who suffered human rights violations during the Guatemalan Civil War (1960-1996). She stands as a vivid symbol of peace and reconciliation across ethnic, cultural and social dividing lines across the world, and is a voice for the indigenous peoples who have been victims to genocides, repression and discrimination.

Wangari Maathai was an Kenyan environmental political activist, author and 2004 Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Noted as the founder of the Green Belt Movement, as well as the first woman in East and Central Africa to earn a doctorate degree and the first-ever female professor in her home country of Kenya, Maathai strongly promoted sustainable development, democracy, and peace.
