5 Classic WWE Stars Who Never Won The WWE Championship

With how over some of these guys were it boggles the mind that they never held the belt at least once.

Razor Ramon

The bad guy was on fire the moment he entered the WWF with his imposing stature, Scarface inspired style, and killer finisher in the Razor's Edge. Razor Ramon could also cut on heck of a promo and made being bad cool again.

In an era where it seemed only a babyface could win the ultimate prize, Razor Ramon was relegated to the mid-card after a brief shot for the WWF Championship against Bret "The Hitman" Heart in a losing effort. Thankfully, he did get time with the Intercontinental Title for his troubles.

He's probably best known for taking part in the "first" ladder match (it wasn't the first but WWE loves to take liberties) against Shawn Michaels that had kids on the playground screaming about how they'ed never seen something like it before.

It wasn't until his move to WCW where Scott Hall shed the Razor Ramon gimmick and helped form the NWO stable that helped WCW take the lead during the infamous Monday Night Wars over the WWF.

Ted DiBiase

The Million Dollar Man seemed to make his name in the WWF during a transition time and was always overshadowed by Hulk Hoagn, Macho Man and the Ultimate Warrior a little later. This is a shame because DiBase is one of the greatest heel wrestlers of all time.

In most any other time in wrestling history he would have been WWF Champion, and probably would have held the title a few times before retiring to some island in the sun. Still, DiBase was hated by fans for all the right reasons. DiBase was so popular even during the Hogan Era that he created his own Million Dollar Title that he would sport to the ring or put on those in his stable.

Sone Cold Steve Austin, then know as The Ringmaster, even held the Million Dollar Belt for a time. The Million Dollar Man had had a few chances for the WWF Championship so he never fell to the mid-card during his WWF run with matches against Macho Man and Hulk Hogan for the title.

He even once paid Andre the Giant to hand over the belt after beating Hulk, which he did! DiBase defended the belt at a few house shows but WWE doesn't recognize the title reign. He would have to settle for a Tag-Team Title reign with IRS

Jake “The Snake” Roberts

Jake “The Snake” Roberts is a legend in the business and had wrestlers in fear whenever he pulled out his pet python. That's not even kayfabe, some people were actually afraid of the huge snake and we don't blame them.

Robert's was a fan favorite for his entire run, but never made it to the top of the mountain and win the WWF Championship. Jake himself will tell you that not winning the title wasn't a big deal, but he sure deserved a run.

Rumor has it he was supposed to get a shot, but Hulk Hogan nixed his push as was the case with so many wrestlers. Roberts had some great matches and was always a favorite whenever he entered the Royal Rumble.

Unfortunately, Roberts is probably best known today for his time outside the ring and his various struggles with alcohol and drugs that led to multiple brushes with death and the notorious Heroes of Wrestling show debacle.

Mr. Perfect

Curt Hennig was perfect. He gimmick was fantastic and his work in the ring was equally, well, perfect. Of all the people on this list Mr. Perfect is probably the one wrestling fans would assume at least had a run with the WWF title. WWE even WWE credited Henning for raising the accepted standard of technical wrestling.

WCW would also heap massive amounts of praise on Henning recognizing him as "one of the best all-round competitors this business has ever produced." This makes it all the more odd that neither company put their World Title on the guy.

Mr. Perfect would have to settle for winning the Intercontinental Title twice in WWE. There's a reason why back in the 1990's getting the IC title put on you was valued more in so many wrestling circles than the WWF title, which was simply kept warm while Hulk Hogan was away doing something.

His time in WCW didn't pan out, but he did manage to win the United States Championship and Tag-Team Titles before winning a few fake "World Titles" in fly-by-night promotions before he passed away in 2003.

5

Ric Rude

Ravishing Rick Rude was a heel that you loved to hate. You were meant to despise the man, but respect his talents in the ring. Putting the belt on Rude would have made perfect sense and the target on his back would have made some great runs against whatever babyface was thrown at him.

It's just a shame that badguys never really got the title shot, probably because Hulk Hogan was around. His pre-match routine has become stuff of legend. And pants with the IC title painted on them is still something people talk about.

Rude had some memorable matches against Jake "The Snake" Roberts and would go on to feud with the Ultimate Warrior for the championship in two losing efforts. He would then leave for WCW because he wasn't happy with his booking.

He would win the United States Championship and hold it for nearly 14 months, a title run that is the second longest in history. He was never beaten and instead dropped the title because of a legitimate injury. Rude later won the first international World Heavyweight Championship when WCW left the NWA.
