Tamagotchi

Bandai had a huge hit with girls in the Tamagotchi virtual pet. To appeal to boys, the company created the Digimon virtual pet and added a fighting feature. The rest is history!

Season 2 Production

Digimon was such a massive hit that followup seasons were a lock. But the show was so big that Bandai put season 2 into production before season 1 had completed.

Digimon Tamers is considered by many as a darker take on the Digimon series, with better pacing, stronger plots, and more adult themes. This can be attributed to Chiaki J. Konaka who previous worked on the quite dark Hellsing.

The love triangle between Tai, Matt, and Sora was planned out from the start by the writers. The plan was always to have Matt end up with Sora. If you are a keen enough viewer, you can actually find bits of foreshadowing for this in season 1.

Pokemon the Movie was a massive cash cow and Fox wanted in on the action. But instead of making a Digimon movie in full, the studio took three Japanese shorts and stung them together. It was a mess, but it did turn a profit.
