Jarvis Cocker moons Michael Jackson at the 1996 BRITs

At the BRITs in 1996, Jarvis Cocker took exception to the way Michael Jackson saw himself as a ‘Christ-like figure’ and decided to do something about it.
The stick-thin Pulp frontman climbed on stage during MJ's performance and exposed his bare bum to the world.
Jarvis was bundled off stage by security and into the back of a police car, but a nation approved of the way in which he’d gone about tackling Wacko Jacko's apparent Jesus complex.

Robbie Williams offers to fight Liam Gallagher at 2000 BRITs

Robbie Williams used to be pals with Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher - but not for long.
The pair had traded insults in the press for months and then Robbie decided he'd put his money where his mouth is - literally, that is.
At the BRITs in 2000, the former Take That singer stood on the podium after accepting an award and used his acceptance speech to call out Gallagher, asking the audience: “Would anybody like to see me fight Liam?
“Would you pay to come and see it?
"Liam, 100 grand of your money, hundred grand of my money and we’ll have a fight and you can all watch it on TV. What do you think about that?”
Gallagher did not take Robbie up on his kind offer.

Geri Halliwell’s boob flash (1997)

Back at the height of Girl Power, Ginger Spice Geri took to the BRITs stage in a Union Jack dress that left little to the imagination.
But millions of TV viewers didn’t need much imagination when Geri changed into a red sequin dress to accept an award… and suffered an oh-so accidental wardrobe malfunction on her way to the stage.

Chumbawumba drench John Precott (1998)

Years before the Ice Bucket Challenge had been dreamed up, Danbert Nobacon, of anarchist pop band Chumbawumba, threw a bucket of iced water over then Labour cabinet member John Prescott.
Nobacon showed no remorse, saying later: “If John Prescott has the nerve to turn up at events like the Brit Awards in a vain attempt to make Labour seem cool and trendy, then he deserves all we can throw at him."

5

Russell Brand (2007)

Russell Brand was always likely to be a controversial choice to host the BRITs - and so it proved.
The Essex comedian hit the headlines after making uncomfortable jokes about a British soldier being killed in friendly fire, the Queen’s “naughty bits” and Robbie Williams' drug problems.
As a result, ITV1 received hundreds of complaints.

Adele (2012)

Pop queen Adele showed her displeasure after she was cut off by host James Corden while giving her acceptance speech for Best Album, because the live televised show was behind schedule.
A terrified looking James told her: "I'm so so sorry, I can't believe I'm going to do this..."
Realising she was being rushed by bosses who needed to get Blur on stage, Adele said: "Oh alright, I'm sorry, and I'll see you this time next year!"
The Hello singer then waved goodbye by flashing her middle finger at the cameras before storming off.

KLF fire blanks at the audience (1992)

The KLF performed the chart-topping track 3 a.m Eternal live at the BRIT Awards alongside punk group Extreme Noise Terror.
In a “violently antagonistic performance” Bill Drummond, wearing a kilt and smoking a guitar, fired blanks into the crowd with an automatic rifle.
As they left the stage, their promoter announced on the PA system: “The KLF have now left the music business”, marking the band’s retirement.
Talk about going out with a bang!
