Flying Fish

Flying Fish

Made famous by their oversized pectoral fins which allow them to glide for hundreds of metres through the air, Flying Fish are found in all oceans. Particularly fond of warmer waters, they're a part of the tradition and culture of Barbados and many other island nations. Small in size, the Flying Fish lay their eggs on objects adrift at sea, which a bird's eye view definitely helps them to find.

Clown Fish

Clown Fish

Prominently found in the Pacific Ocean, Clown fish live inside and in partnership with sea anomone, which provide protection from predators in exchange for regular cleaning of parasites. Made famous by the film 'Finding Nemo', Clown fish have been a fan favourite from the animal Kingdom ever since. Small and family centric, Clown fish males attract females by presenting them with the best kept anemone in which to lay their eggs.

Whale Shark

Whale Shark

The world's largest fish by far, the Whale Shark lives in tropical waters world wide. Claims from native people that these fish reach 30 tonnes and 50 feet in length are not uncommon. As a result, the Whale Shark carries huge cultural and traditional significance to many people. Listed as vulnerable on the ICUN Red List, Whale Sharks are the target of many conservation efforts world wide, as illegal hunting and loss of habitat and food decreases their numbers. Frontier are one such organisation, fighting to save the Whale Shark and its environment.

Lion Fish

Lion Fish

With a variety of names from the Lion Fish to Zebra Fish to Turkey Fish to Fire Fish to Butterfly-Cod, this tropical beauty is unmistakable thanks to large and colourful venomous spines. Natives of the Indo-Pacific oceans, these critters have been introduced to the Caribbean in recent years in the hope they'd help out the eco-system. Unfortunately, numbers have sky-rocketed and become uncontrollable, causing yet more damage to the reef. As a result, they're now hunted for their meat. The Lion fish has traditional medicine uses as well as folk-lore and culture value, they're an iconic tropical fish from around the world.
