DRIVERS LICENSE: Every candidate is expected to have a valid motor vehicle driver's license from the State of New York. In case of any moving violation or suspensions against the driving license, the candidate will be disqualified automatically.
Other requirements include passing a drug screening test, being a resident of New York City, and speaking and understanding English fluently.

Application Details:
The first step is to complete an online application by filling in all the required information and paying a fee. Once the application has been cleared, the candidate will be invited to sit in a written test. A minimum score of 70% is required to clear the test, and only the highest-scoring candidates are offered a job.
Every candidate that passed the exam is put on a list that is valid for four years. The names appear on the list according to the test results, and that is also the order the candidates will be considered for any available jobs within the sanitation department.

When to Apply:
The applications for the New York City Sanitation Department are usually available at the start of September and are closed by the 25th of the month. The testing process begins in January after all the applications have been evaluated and a list of eligible candidates has been published. The Testing & Applications Centers are open throughout the week from nine in the morning till five in the evening with the exception of Sundays.
