The Table, 3A Dundas Street, EH3 6QG

It's fair to say that this restaurant is outrageously popular with 95% of it's 200 reviews rated as "excellent." It is located in the heart of the New Town and has a set menu that costs £70 a head. At the moment it includes Lobster Halibut and Venison. A must for any foodies in Edinburgh.

With over 400 reviews, 94% of which are rated "excellent," F&C is a superb fine dining experience in Edinburgh's West End. Valerie from Dallas Texas said it has: "Congenial hosts and wonderful food" and gave the restaurant five stars. If public opinion sways you on where to eat out, then look no further.

Located in Edinburgh's south side near Hollyrood Park, Aizle is a "dinner only" restaurant with a set seasonal menu. The menu has five courses and amounts to £45 per person. With over 500 reviews, 84% of which are in the "excellent" bracket, Aizle is loved by locals and tourists alike. Jessica from New York said: "This was the best meal we ate while in Scotland."

Located smack dab in the centre of Edinburgh's Old Town, The Colonnades is just off the High Street. Boasting an impressive 85% rating in the "excellent" bracket derived from over 800 reviews, this is more a café than a restaurant. It serves afternoon tea and lunch until 5pm at £30 per head, with the exception of August where dinner is served until 8pm. This shouldn't put you off however, as Natalie from Nebraska said it's a "wonderful experience."

A little further North to Stockbridge now, here lies Scotland's 2015 "Best Fine Dining Award" winner. From over 650 reviews, 80% have been rated as "excellent" on Trip Advisor. Devika from London called it a "pocket of happiness" and anyone who has been here is usually inclined to agree. Small, quaint and reasonably priced, it is the definition of a hidden gem. The restaurant is small so booking is advised.

Located to the North East of the town, The Walnut is one of Edinburgh's little known quality restaurants. Amidst 221 TA reviews only 1% dropped to the "average" bracket with 83% rated as "excellent." It boasts a varied menu of great value which has been very well received by the people of Edinburgh. Local woman Sheena called it "fantastic" and told TA "I will be back."

The most central restaurant on our list is part of the renowned Balmoral Hotel on the corner where Princes Street Meets North Bridge. 84% of it's reviews are in the top bracket and those are derived from over 1,300 reviews. Peter H wishes to tell you: " If you're thinking of going to Number one, but are unsure, don't think twice." Number one is probably the most widely known restaurant on this list due to it's location and reputation. A touch off the beaten track now to the West side of town. Locanda boasts an 84% excellence rate based on over 1,000 reviews. Well known for its seafood, this is one of the top Italian places in town if you're craving such cuisine. Winner of multiple awards including two AA Rosettes, Locanda de Gusti is brilliant value for the calibre of culinary competence you can expect here. As Joel from Edinburgh says: "Best Italian I've ever been to! Point Blank!"

Just North of Queen Street, Pickles is one of the best places in the capital for authentic Scottish cuisine. 85% of the 712 TA reviews are in the top bracket and that speaks volumes to Pickles' popularity. Thomas from Newcastle upon Tyne called it "Perfect!" and from what has been said through word-of-mouth most seem inclined to agree.

Kezban Mediterranean Restaurant, 9-10 Commercial Street, EH6 6JA

Located in Leith right next to river, Kezban is as authentic a Mediterranean restaurant as you will find in Edinburgh. It boasts over 300 reviews of which 85% are in the "excellent" bracket. The food is rich and sumptuous and the staff are competent and friendly. In terms of value it is more than reasonable and if you need more confirmation of its quality just defer for a moment to the TA reviews for Kezban to alleviate any concerns. Martin from Manchester for example, thinks "Kezban is brilliant."
