Can you believe it's been a year since lockdowns and quarantines across the world began? Another St. Patrick's Day is here, and thankfully we've learned to adjust. We may be missing the big parades and crowded parties again this year, but that's no reason not to celebrate. Keep reading for how you can enjoy this March 17th to the fullest.

Get Cooking

Traditionally St. Patrick's Day was a cultural and religious celebration held on March 17th. Part of the celebration included a big feast. So, this year try your hand at some more traditional Irish meals like corned beef, shepard’s pie, or Irish beef stew. Not only will you be celebrating, but also you'll come away with some new dishes to add to your repertoire.

Search or the Pot of Gold

Host a St. Patrick's Day scavenger hunt! This activity is great for the whole family but can be adjusted to meet the needs of specific ages. The best part? It can take place outdoors and allow for distancing. Hide chocolate coins, gifts, treats, and more and see who finds the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Watch an Irish movie or TV series

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a dose of Irish culture. Derry Girls is a great option for those looking for a good binge-watching session. The show covers the personal exploits of a 16-year-old girl and her family and friends during a difficult time in Ireland in the early 1990s. You'll also catch Nicola Coughlan (of Bridgerton fame) starring in the show.

Sip on Something Green

Go beyond the typical drink of the day and explore the inner mixologist in you. Come up with the perfect cocktail or mocktail to celebrate the day. You can get creative with ingredients, flavors, and make enough for your whole household to enjoy.

Explore Irish Poetry

Did you know Ireland is home to some of the world's most famous poets? To name a few-- this includes William Butler Yeats, Seamus Heaney, and Samuel Beckett. Irish poetry is so diverse you are sure to find something that will speak to your soul.

Stepdance Challenge

How about attempting some Irish dancing this year? Step dancing is a known part of Irish culture and is sure to make an appearance on March 17th. You can learn how through a virtual class or watching videos online. Either you'll find your next great talent or you'll have a good laugh along the way.

Go on Tou

St. Patty's day isn't just for those who love to go out and celebrate. You can easily add some history to the day by engaging in an Irish museum tour online. Pick from the National Museum of Ireland – Natural History or the National Gallery of Ireland. You might not be able to fly there right now, but that won't stop you from getting a dose of Irish culture from your own home.

Han with Saoirse Ronan

Celebrate Irish-American heritage this St. Patrick's Day with Irish-American actress, Saoirse Ronan. This beauty is known for her roles in Brooklyn and Little Women. Brooklyn is particularly relevant as it details one young woman's immigrant story- cue the kleenex!

Wear Green

Working from home is no excuse not to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Have fun and pick out a new green outfit for the occasion. You'll be able to spot like-minded individuals on your work Zoom calls that day. The pinching will have to wait til next year though.

When All Else Fails- Bake

When all else fails and pandemic blues have you down, go green! Head to the kitchen and whip out that food coloring. Cookies, cupcakes, and cakes can all be made festive and make for a delicious celebration. Drop them off at neighbor's homes to give them a little something to smile about.
