A shallow inlet of the Gulf of Mexico, Mobile Bay provides tourists and locals with an abundance of inshore fishing opportunities. This 413 square miles long estuary starts where the Mobile and Tensaw Rivers empty into the Bay and go south 30 miles to the entrance of the Gulf of Mexico. Rivers on the western shore, such as Fowl, Deer, Dog Rivers, and on the eastern shore, such as Fish, Magnolia, and Bon Secour Rivers also empty into Mobile Bay- both offer their own unique fishing experience. If you have never done fishing here, it’s time you book a fishing charter in Mobile Bay soon. One of the best things about Mobile Bay is that you can enjoy fishing here in any part of the year.

June till August are the warmest months of the year in the region - ideal for bait fishing. Anglers can try catching speckled trout or redfish using both artificial and live bait. Live baits are available in plenty and they work even more effectively in the summer months. If you are fishing in the early morning or late afternoon, you can expect a lot of action with topwater lures, especially in the shallows as fish tend to move in to feed. As water temperatures reach their peak in July and August, fish move into the cooler, deeper water columns in the bay. The bigger the bait, the bigger your catch! If you have some experience in fishing, you can even expect to catch 6-10 lb Speckled Trout. However, Mobile Bay guides are always there to assist beginners in fishing.

December till February are the coldest months of the year in the region and Speckled Trout can be found in the deeper columns of rivers. Redfish can be found on drop-offs along the sandbars and river banks. Since live bait is not so easy to find in this part of the year, anglers should slow down their presentation using artificial baits. Anglers don’t always have to brave the cold in Mobile Bay during winter.

Many anglers prefer fishing in the spring and fall as temperatures are comfortable during this time of the year, and they can fish throughout the estuary. From September to early November, fish move to the north from the Barrier Islands to deeper columns up in the rivers. From late March till May, fish move in the opposite direction from the rivers back out to the warming bay waters and the Gulf of Mexico.
