Techstars politics in action
First time we applied to techstars Boston in 2016. We got only one email after our application was submitted and did not get any emails or notifications from techstars anymore, they did not informed about our status if our startup was accepted or rejected. Because of this silence we understood after few months we are not accepted to the class. I decided for myself I will not apply anymore to techstars. First we do not need their accelerator, second we grow fast organically and have good trend. And last reason: according techstars rules Techstars takes a 6% equity stake for $18,000 initial investment. This is TOO MUCH and NOT worth at all!
So we forgot about techstars. In October 2017 we received nice email from Managing Director of Techstars Boston Clement Cazalot. He wrote us that he remembers our company since last year and even our startup was not accepted to the Techstars Boston 2017 class our application got very high score from experts and he personally invited us to participate in program Techstars Boston 2018 and promised help and complete protection to became accepted to this program. We sent application and was full of hope to became really accepted this time.
Passed 4 months and again NO email NO notification about status of our application. After I found in internet list of Techstars Boston Startups 2018 I understood we are not there. I posted message on discussion board with question why no one even sent email and got suspicious email from Techstars Boston Director Aaron O'Hearn he wrote crypto expert did not accept or did not read our application. Our startup does NOT related to any crypto. Which crypto expert they did not explain. From this strange email I understood: no one read our application at all.
I am very disappointed with techstars: They are not professional. They do not respect participants. They are liars.
I just checked list of Boston Startups to Watch in 2018
Very interesting: Startup "Sentenai": was founded by former Techstars Boston director Rohit Gupta. I am not former director of Techstars so I understand why my startup was not accepted. Second nice startup: "Spotted" Track & analyze the most photographed celebrities on Earth. Question: who need this and market size of this mega startup. How many celebrities we have on the Earth: 10000. Don't brands know their sells volume? Or celebrities do not know what they wear? For who all these freaking project? What about other population of the Earth planet approx 7.442 billion who is not celebrity: they are out of the game. Market size 10 000 really global startup. As more stupid idea it become more sponsored on techstars. Twitter of this startup "Spotted" shows us that it is really interesting and global and has "only" 80 followers.
Global techstars has "only" 80 followers.

Question: how many sells they have? Who told this idea is not dead? Interesting that all startups accepted to class 2018 was created in 2017, have zero sells, have zero social, have zero proof on their web-sites that their proposed ideas really work. For example startup “Elsen” accepted to techstars Boston 2018 they provides a big data platform that helps financial institutions test and discover new investment strategies. Question: is there missing backtesting tools and platforms on the market? As I work in this area I say no. Because every trading platform has good enough backtesting tools and no need to use 3-d part platform. Second: do this startup have sells? Their facebook page has 73 likes that shows us this is really “popular” mega startup.
Second techstars startup facebook page has 73 likes.

Another startup from techstars Boston 2018 Zemcar CEO Juliette Kayyem, who served as a homeland security official in the Obama administration. What can I say I did not work in the Obama administration. Question: Who need this statup? Is someone going to use black horse driver from internet for his child? As for me NO. Looking on their instagram we can see they are not interesting and not popular also as others above:
Another techstars startup's instagram.
Another techstars startup's instagram shows us it is not interesting and not popular also as others above.
Conclusion:
We reviewed techstars and participated and found that Techstars is NOT worth is and NOT worth to participate. Techstars is unprofessional. Techstars is NOT trasparent. Techstars is too much politicized.
I do not recommend to deal and to apply to Techstars.
