How long has it been since you asked yourself what you truly wanted to get out of a fitness program?

For most people, they cannot remember. It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day race of "taking care of business." By the end of the day, they have just enough energy and time to get ready for the next day. This is a challenging habit to get out of and move into a more energetic lifestyle.

Just as it takes time to settle into a new normal, it will take time to transition into a healthier lifestyle that will only be more rewarding in the end.

Part of getting on the road to adapting to new fitness habits will start with setting fitness goals that apply to you. Your goals can be huge, medium, and small! This is the time to ask yourself what you truly want to get off your fitness program.

When starting a workout program a plan of action is going to get you through the initial part in building up the momentum.

There are a couple of categories to determine where you most likely would fit in:

Category 1: Ready to start and I will work out a plan of action once I get in the gym or hit the road running, etc.

Category 2: Ready to start, but I need a plan in place to follow before I begin any workout program.

This is crucial to determine which category you fit in that way know which way to begin. Either category is not right or wrong, it just fits in with your style that will help you build the momentum in your workout program. Plus if you have a workout partner, you can determine how both of you go about in keeping each other accountable before and during your workout.

That's it!

There is no other excuse holding you back from starting a workout program. Who cares if it's hot or cold or windy or rainy or whatever excuse your mind will make up! Now that you know which category you fit in, take ACTION, keep track of your fitness achievement and be consistent with the days and time you commit to working out.

On the days that you get to the point saying "I don't feel like it," break out your list of WHYs. If you have not listed your WHYs, this is a required step to complete. The WHYs will no longer hold you back from any guesswork you may have on starting any type of workout program. It's the foundation in which your momentum will drive from.

  • Define your WHYs
  • Why are you starting a workout program?
  • Why do you want to be in shape?
  • Why are you motivated to take action?

Remember, do not give up on yourself if you are not at the same level as the athlete next to you. This is a sure fire way to destroy any momentum you have going for your workouts. Your fitness capabilities and how far you push yourself belong only to you. The question at the end of each work out should be something along the lines of:

"How far can I push myself next time?" or "Did I push myself hard enough today?"

Starting a workout program is for you. You have the ultimate control over how far you would like to drive fitness in your life. Take action one step at a time and you will be amazed at the results and how much your body is willing to work for you.
