Success

Its a story that shows, if you work hard enough you'll reach success. In the book, Gatsby does everything he can to achieve wealth and love. When he reaches the success, it makes the reader believe that if you work hard enough you can reach your goal. For Gatsby he never stopped trying to have the love of his life and he ended up finally getting her, even though it only lasted a little while.

2

Romance

This book was written in the 1920's and during that time romance seemed to be a big thing. In this book, there are several people wanting one another. If there are readers who enjoy romance novels, I encourage them to read this book. Throughout the novel, the readers mostly know Gatsby to be the guy who is obsessively in love with Daisy, who is married to another man. Nick, Daisy's cousin, falls in love with a women, Jordan, who he meets at one of Gatsby's parties. Tom, Daisy's husband, has secrets and isn't a loyal husband because he has feelings for another woman. All of these characters are tied up in a complicated love situation.

3

Story Line

This novel will never lose the reader. It is very straight forward and easy to read. the story line never skips around to other times, so it wont confuse you. Some books like to have many flashbacks and when it does, the reader can get confused on what is present and what isn't.

4

Language

In this novel, Gatsby had quite the way of describing people in situations. This makes the reader see things clearly in their head. You can visualize and imagine in your head what Gatsby is seeing and feeling by the way he uses his words and describes things. For example, Gatsby describes Daisy as this beautiful women who has a voice that everyone wants to hear everyday. He says her personality is perfect and when he describes her, the reader can picture what Daisy would be like in real life.

5

Human Nature

Gatsby is the perfect example for showing that human nature doesn't change. If you truly love someone you don't give up. Just like how Gatsby didn't give up on daisy. Tom started off as a violent man and remained a violent man. In this novel each character has a certain aspect of human nature and they each continuously show it throughout the entire book.

6

Over and Over

This is a novel that a reader will never get tired of. The first time reading it you have a site of the basic plot of the novel. As you re-read it you start to have an insight on the smaller important details of what is going on and how the characters feel. This book contains various genres which keeps the reader on their feet. There is drama, love, violence and betrayal. There is drama and love when Tom cheats on Daisy and when Gatsby and Daisy fall in love. The murder of Gatsby and Myrtle and the fights with Tom display violence in the novel. The lies with Tom, Daisy and Gatsby display drama and betrayal in the novel.

7

Misery

Every single character in the novel seems to be miserable in their own personal way. Nick doesn't know what's going to come of his life. Gatsby longs for Daisy. Daisy feels the pain of having an unloyal husband. Tom is in an unhappy relationship and then Daisy and Tom continuously lie to everyone around them and have to move all the time so that people don't know that tom is cheating. That puts a big stake in their relationship. Its fascinating how the author can make every character miserable in a different way and there are flaws with each character.

8

Friendship

Nick displays true friendship towards Gatsby, even though Nick seems to criticize Gatsby, he admires him at the same time. Nick always does what Gatsby wants, to make him happy, even if Nick doesn't always agree with it. Nick tries to do what's best for the people around him even if it means to not do the right thing.

9

Suspense

At the beginning of the book, Nick has no idea who Gatsby is. He hears lots of rumors regarding illegal actions and violence. It leaves the reader wondering if these rumors are true. When Nick finally meets Gatsby, he realizes that Gatsby seems suspicious as he tells his background. He appears to be roll playing as if he made up his background. Gatsby's murder was not a simple murder. He was blamed for killing Myrtle when really it was daisy who did. Tom told Wilson, Mytrle's husband, that everyone was saying that Gatsby was the driver and so Wilson went to Gatsby's house and killed Gatsby trying to get revenge. Then after he killed Gatsby he kills himself. All throughout this part in the book the reader is suspenseful because they did not know what could happen next.

10

Romantic Tragedy

The foundation of this novel is to rediscover and recreate an old love. While in a classic love story, the main couple end up being together, Gatsby and Daisy, not only find their love but lose it in the end. Throughout the story, Gatsby and Daisy's situation keeps you wondering whether they're going to get back together or not. In the end of the novel there is tragedy, Gatsby, Daisy's lover, gets killed. Wilson's wife gets killed, so he kills himself. This story has quite the opposite of a happy ending like you would expect. Gatsby dies in the end and Daisy turns out to be selfish and remains with Tom. This book is a dark version of a classic love story.
