These towns are located in the far north of Sweden. During winter, it can be freezing cold, but if you are lucky, you will be able to catch a glimpse of the northern light. In some weeks during summer the sun is up 24 hours a day.
Luleå changes during the year. In summer it is one of the sunniest places in Sweden, Make sure to take a small ferry to visit the archipelago just a few minutes from the city center to enjoy on of the 1312 islands of Luleå. But in winter, you won’t need the ferry. The whole bay is frozen during the winter months, which means an excellent opportunity to go ice skating. Luleå is also known for excellent access to ski slopes and its innovative spirit deriving from the technological University.

Umeå is called “the city of birches”. Indeed, the closeness to nature makes this town something extra. But Umeå also offers a quite thriving cultural scene. The town has produced many internationally successful rock bands like Refused and The Bear Quartet. In addition, Umeå was the European capital of culture in 2014.

Malmö or Lund

This is almost as far south you can come in Sweden. Malmö is the third largest city in Sweden, and there is a lot going on here. Activities range from bloc parties, poetry slams, electronic music festivals, etc,, etc. And the train to Copenhagen takes only 25 minutes.

Lund also has a lot to offer. Everyday, there are student activities occurring, whether it is concerts, mingles, or stand up festivals. The countryside is next door, and you can get a falafel for only 30 kronor (3 Euro).

Sweden's second city is located in the far west. Here the people pride themselves for being super friendly, or as they say: "görtrevliga". There is a lot of parks as well as the bar street Andra Långgatan, which sparks an European vibe. And in August, every Swedish hipster comes here for the annual Way Out West music festival. It is also the location of Volvo.

Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, also prides itself with being the capital of Scandinavia. In every part of the city, there are huge parks for strolling around in. Since Stockholm is built on islands, the city is full off water. And the nightlife is probably the best in Sweden.

Uppsala,Sweden´s fourth city, is just an hour away from Stockholm. Most things in this town revolves around the University, and you can get your fair share of night life here. Uppsala is famous for its many parks and the Fyriså that runs through the city centre. Don't miss the boat race!

Called "Sveriges Jerusalem", Jönköping is the most religious town in Sweden. But probably, you will not notice that much. What you will notice, however, is the beautiful nature surrounding this medium size town. Jönköping is located just by the second largest lake in Sweden, and believe it or not, there is a quite nice beach here!

Linköping offers a lot of activities for young people. You can participate in the "Valla Saucer-Rennen" - Northern Europe's largest parallel saucer competition, or "Draget" - a national tug-of-war tournament. Make sure not to miss Vinterljus, when the whole town is lit up by colourful lighting.

Karlskrona, Kalmar or Växjö

Karlskrona, or "K-town" as the locals call it, offers a quite nice supply of nightclubs and bars for its rather small size. But most importantly, there is a gigantic archipelago a few minutes away from the city centre. Take the opportunity to go by boat and enjoy the array of small islands stone islands, and make sure to go skinny dipping!

The towns Kalmar and Växjö are located in the heart of Småland. If you enjoy strolling around in the forest, these are the perfect places for you. While Kalmar offers a medieval-style city centre, Växjö spurs a more contemporary cultural vibe. If you are up for a field trip, it will only take you a few hours to get to Öland, Sweden´s second largest Island.

Karlstad, Falun, or Örebro

Karlstad is the perfect choice for you if you enjoy long walks in the forest. But Karlstad is actually a quite buzzing small town. For example, it hosts the most bar dense street in the whole country. Make sure to visit one of the many museums, and take a walk across the oldest Stonebridge in Sweden.

Falun is also an excellent choice if you are into outdoor life. The forests around Falun offers great possibilities for hiking, skiing, fishing, or just strolling casually in the woods looking for blueberries or mushrooms. But be careful, you might find yourself staring eye to eye with an massive elk!

This pretty town of Örebro is conveniently located just between the forests of Kilsebergen and the lake Hjälmaren. You can go shopping in the morning, visit one of the many nice cafés for lunch, kayaking in the afternoon, and then return to the city centre for some drinks in one of the many bars downtown.

Sundsvall, a cosy town by the Baltic Sea, offers great pedestrianized precincts in the nearby forests. The city is quite known for its many restaurants and friendly bars. But think twice before you consider a piece of "surströmming"!

The forests of Östersund offers great possibilities for hiking, skiing, fishing, or just strolling casually in the woods looking for blueberries or mushrooms. And if you are really lucky, you might just catch a glimpse of the northern light.
