Moths

Moths themselves tend not to do much damage, but the larvae they leave behind can wreak havoc with materials like wool, cotton or silk.

2

Flies

On their own or in very small numbers, flies don't present much of an issue; however, a group can lead to an infestation, which is likely to spread diseases such as Salmonella and E. coli.

3

Woodworms

The term 'woodworm' covers a variety of woodworm beetles - the adults lay their eggs deep into wooden objects, infesting floorboards and furniture.

4

Garden Ants

Garden ants spend most of their time gathering food, so are attracted to sweet, sticky substances - because they travel around so much, they can carry a variety of diseases.

5

Spiders

Of the 650 species in the UK, very few cause any actual harm - however, for someone with arachnophobia, the sight of them crawling out of cracks in the wall or floor can be rather distressing!

6

Cockroaches

Perhaps the biggest pest on our list, cockroaches can cause major damage to your personal health.
