He utilized skillful combinations to dismantle his opponents as he was not particularly powerful with a coup de main type attack. He held a world title reign from 1978 - 1983 and defended the title an astonishing 19 times. He possessed a temper early on in his career but mellowed out later after boxing.

He persevered against punishment and exhaustion in every fight beyond what many of his opponents thought possible. He had an unrelenting onslaught and that resulted in unsurpassed ring control. Marciano was a man of humble origins, having fought in world war two and working multiple jobs. He died shortly after he retired in a car accident but his style left a lasting impression for generations.
