"Conga" (1985)

“Conga” was the first hit single by Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine. It reached the top 10 on the Hot 100 and is frequently recognized as one of Estefan’s most notable songs. Like the dance it pays homage to, the song, with its heavy Latin influences, is both inviting and contagious. You can’t listen to “Conga” without getting the urge to at least bob your head.

"Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" (1987)

“Rhythm Is Gonna Get You” was Estefan’s second single with Miami Sound Machine to hit the top five on Billboard’s Hot 100. However, it had some trouble abroad, and didn't break into the top 20 in the UK until it was rereleased after the popularity of subsequent singles.

"Anything for You" (1988)

“Anything For You” marked Estefan’s first number one song on the Billboard 100 charts. Appearing on Miami Sound Machine's 10th studio album "Let It Loose," it became Estefan’s crossover hit in Europe, and landed at No. 10 on the UK charts.

4

"Don’t Wanna Lose You" (1989)

“Don’t Wanna Lose You” is a slow ballad that bares Estefan’s soul: “I’ll open my heart and show you inside, my love has no pride." It’s not the type of catchy dance anthem that she’s generally associated with in 2015, but the song was her second number-one single and earned her a Grammy nomination.

"Here We Are" (1989)

One of Estefan’s most recognized songs, “Here We Are” is the third single of her 1989 debut album, "Cuts Both Ways." The soulful ballad peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and went all the way to No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary charts.

"Get On Your Feet" (1989)

“Get On Your Feet” has perhaps had the strangest pop culture legacy of any Estefan single. During the Gloria Estefan-themed episode of "American Idol" season 3, it was sung by Fantasia Barrino, who would go on to win. It was the walk-on music during a presentation by Microsoft exec Steve Ballmer, during which he famously got a little too excited. Later, it soundtracked an ice rink trip in "Parks and Recreation." Clearly, it's still a hit.

"Coming Out of the Dark" (1991)

Inspired by a vehicular accident that was nearly fatal, “Coming Out of the Dark” was the first song Estefan publicly performed after the incident. The song is a soul ballad that features a choir. It was Estefan’s third single to rise to the very top of Hot 100 list.

8

"Turn the Beat Around" (1994)

Gloria Estefan recreated this 1976 Vicky Sue Robinson disco classic for the action film "The Specialist." Released as a single and eventually featured on her fourth solo album "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me," the song would go on to reach No. 13 on the Hot 100.

"1-2-3" (1998)

First recorded with original backing band Miami Sound Machine, this countdown remains horn-tastic (it was later remixed to add even MORE horns). Estefan begging a shy guy to reveal himself remains as energetic and seductive as ever.

“Music of My Heart," feat. NSYNC (1999)

You’d be hard-pressed to find more idiosyncratic collaborators than Gloria Estefan, NSYNC, and Wes Craven. This song was released to soundtrack Craven’s film "Music of the Heart." It’s a great time capsule back to the late '90s, when people thought both Joey Fatone’s red hair was acceptable.
