Director Max Joseph's 10 great songs from 'We Are Your Friends' that you can't find on the soundtrack
"I think we have a pretty sweet soundtrack but for anyone who sees the movie, likes the music, and buys the soundtrack," Joseph said, "and doesn’t find that one jam from the film that they were really feeling, then this playlist is for you. Conversely, if you haven’t seen the movie, don’t plan to, or just want to judge me based on how much you like or dislike these tracks, feel free to listen to this playlist as well! Everybody wins."

"I imagined a whole sequence in the film to this song. There's something gleefully scheme-y about it."
"Need Your Lovin'" (Tiger & Woods Remix)

"This song appears in Cole's pool party set for a couple seconds. I wish it could have played longer. It's just a sweet groove that makes you (or me) want to dance."
"Song Remind Me of You (The Swiss Remix)" by Annie

"Another killer song from Cole's pool party set. This track is en fuego."
"How Can You Really" by Foxygen

"Not a dance song, but man, that is OKAY. Sometimes, especially in a movie full of medium-temp songs you need to slow it down and cleanse the palate. This song also seemed like something Sophie (Emily Ratajkowski's character) might have listened to when she was in college."
"See You In The Other Side" by Pyramid

"This song single-handedly inspired the PCP-Animation sequence in 'WAYF.' It was one of the first songs I heard from Pyramid (whom I discovered through Spotify) and led me to collaborate with him to create all of Zac's character’s music in the film."
"Santeria" by Sublime

"Because the film takes place in Southern California, I had ALWAYS wanted to get a Sublime song on the soundtrack. I am a huge Sublime fan and I think their music immediately puts you in SoCal when you listen to it. However, I never found the right spot for it. Then, one day on set when we were setting up a shot of Zac and the boys hanging out in a pool at 5 in the morning they just started singing 'Santeria.' Just bro-ing out to Santeria. So, I quickly motioned to Brett (the DP) to start rolling the camera and we captured the moment. It was perfect. And now Sublime is in the movie."
"Sunlight (feat. Years and Years)" by The Magician

"For a while this was the song that ended the movie. It is just a magical song that you can dance to and that just makes you feel warm and happy. I know that sounds cheesy as hell but if you listen to it I think you'll get what I'm talking about. The Magician also did that amazing remix of 'I Follow Rivers' by Lykke Li that was so effective in 'Blue Is The Warmest Color.'"
"It's Not Over (Dmitri From Paris Erodisco Mix)" by Holy Ghost!

"I have long been a fan of Holy Ghost! and think they've got the best dance grooves around. For that matter we chose this sick Dmitri From Paris Remix of 'It's Not Over' in the end credits. There was a moment where we were trying to figure out what to do with the music over the end credits and it dawned on me that we should just keep the party going instead of dousing it with a slower/more traditional credit roll song. So we made a three-song DJ set starting with Sunlight, transitioning to Holy Ghost! and then going to Tong and Kingtown's remix of 'Something About You' by Hayden James."
"The Wind and The Dove" by Bill Callahan

"This is another one of the few non-electronic songs in the whole movie. When I was searching for the perfect song that Wes Bentley's character James (who is a music snob and connoisseur) would be wallowing to I asked my friend Jonathan Galkin from DFA records to suggest a couple tracks. He named a few by Bill Callahan (also of Smog). And this was the one that stood out."
"Something About You" by Hayden James

"This song is also featured (heavily) in the pool party scene. I think Hayden James (and many of his compatriots from Future Classics) is great and loved the way this song underscored Zac’s voyeuristic yearning for Emily's character and their subsequent flirtation. It's a great song and we feature a remix of it by the legendary Pete Tong and Kingstown on the soundtrack."
