Every year, the World Ice Cream Index, published by SoolNua, a Dublin-based marketing firm, names the "Best Ice Cream Shop In The World," and this year the honor went to a little stand in St. Louis, Missouri: Ted Drewes Frozen Custard.

Ted Drewes, who is still alive and is only semi-retired with his son-in-law owning and managing the business, was present when his father opened his first frozen custard stand in Florida in 1929. The only location left today, on the south side of St. Louis, opened in 1941. The company uses the same motto it has for over 80 years.

You're only as good as the last customer you served.

The frozen custard stand won the award back in September, but it was just presented with its trophy. Kitty Ratcliffe, president of Explore St. Louis, spoke about the award, saying:

Ted Drewes is an institution in our city and has been serving up amazing frozen treats for visitors and residents along historic Route 66 for generations. We want to give a special thank you to all the Ted Drewes’ fans who voted for them.
