Joe Hackett

Joe Hackett

Joseph Montgomery Hackett

Joe is the responsible one of the two brothers because he had to take care of the family when he was very young after his mother disappeared and his father became institutionalized. (He mentions he had to learn how to wash dishes) So, ever since he became compulsively neat in which he has to keep his stapler at 90 degree angles, label his cabinets whether or not it's empty, and keep his desk very organized. As a kid, he had always dreamed of becoming a pilot and he takes his job at Sandpiper Air very seriously, so if you want to know how to fly at his one plane operation, you'll have to sit through days of his lectures. He enjoys sports and graduated at Boston College, while also pledging a fraternity. He's known to be quite sensitive, but can also hold a grudge for months. Joe, Brian, and Helen were considered the three musketeers from the beginning. Joe has great feelings toward Helen, but he used to believe in calling her a "baby sister." He may not always admit that he loves her, but he shows it's quite obvious because he can be jealous to the fact that he waits outside of her home to spy on Helen and Brian or when Helen showed him how to kiss, he tumbles over the waiting chairs at the airport. Joe is a Capricorn as he mentions this on a romance connection video. He also treats others how he likes to be treated and believes in honesty. Well...Most of the time.

Brian Hackett

Brian Hackett

Brian Michael Hackett

The younger, irresponsible, carefree brother who wastes every opportunity he had to become successful. He could've graduated Princeton, but dropped out. He could've been an astronaut, but he let his dating life get the better of him. He then ran off and married Joe's ex-fiancée named Carol, leaving Joe holding a grudge at him for six years. Carol left Brian as well. He's seems to act a lot like a clown, always making jokes and doing silly things. He can never keep a real commitment and always finds something wrong with someone he dates. He gets pretty annoyed at Joe for being too responsible, but he doesn't hold grudges as well as Joe. He stayed with Joe for a while as he helps Joe at the airport to fly the plane. In the beginning, he took the liberty to try and get Helen to date him, but his attempts fail. He's fun loving, but it can lead him to trouble. Brian is a Pisces mentioned on the romance connection video. Once he burned down Joe's home, but as much as these brothers fight a lot, they always find a way to help each other out again. After all, "They're Rich." as long as they have each other.

Helen Chappel/Hackett

Helen Chappel/Hackett

Helen Chappel/Hackett

You may seem very sweet and honest, but when you get very angry there's a real fire that people shouldn't mess with. You have the ability to drive a jeep into your ex's office! You have a dream that always managed to disappoint you, but somehow you become hopeful to what could be. You may not become a cellist right away, but you do have the dream of marrying your best friend to help support your talent that many people don't recognize or bad luck tends to foil. You are great at helping your friends, whether two brothers stop talking and you try to get them back together or giving support and advice. Sometimes, you can be known as a "Scam Artist" as you can pretend to cry to get out of paying for you ex's office damages when you destroyed it. Helen is a Libra. She use to have a rule that "She doesn't date pilots", but that rule vanishes after a while because she married someone who will always be a pilot at heart. When you're depressed you would eat your feelings and hide in a locker away from "prying eyes" to eat a slice of pizza. Sometimes, you'll make rash decisions, but in the end you'll get what you want.

Lowell Mather

Lowell Mather

Lowell Mathers is a mechanic between the two airlines, he is not the brightest and not the best partner when playing Trivia Pursuit because every answer for a question he is asked tends to be "Ann Margaret". He says he gets too jealous when it came to his ex-wife Bunny. He used to live on a houseboat, but Brian managed to sink it. Lowell once bought a wax museum that included many classic characters like Barney Fife, Laurel and Hardy, the Beverly hillbillies, and Lisa Douglas. He often wears an orange baseball hat.

Fay Schlob/ Dumbly/ DeVay/ Cochran

Fay Schlob/ Dumbly/ DeVay/ Cochran

Fay Evelyn Schlob Dumbly DeVay Cochran

Fay is Joe's only other employee besides Brian. She is a retired flight attendant who handles the ticket counter, baggage check, and flight announcements for Sandpiper Air. She grew up in Syracuse, NY (next to a Chop Shop), and lived in Hawaii before moving to Nantucket. She is generally sweet and motherly, though slightly batty. She looks after the younger members of their circle as her own children, although she can be sweetly manipulative.

Fay is thrice widowed; all three of her husbands were named George, and she jokes about a curse that if she marries a man named George, he will die prematurely. She almost marries a man named Lyle, only to learn that "Lyle" is only his middle name and his first name is George.

Fay has a streak in which she has touched every First Lady of the United States since Eleanor Roosevelt.

She met Joe on a flight she was attending which ends up to be the beginning of their working together at Sandpiper when Joe is tired of working for someone else.

Roy Biggins

Roy Biggins

Roy Peterman Biggins is the owner of Aeromass, the only other airline on Nantucket and, with seven planes, a larger business than Sandpiper, although Roy had been unable to break into the lucrative business of charter flights.

Generally competitive, arrogant and unpleasant. Roy often belittles Joe for having a small-time operation and mocks Joe's business skills. Despite this, Roy feels threatened by Joe's presence as a competitor, and makes numerous attempts to either buy Sandpiper or put it out of business.

Roy was married to a woman named Sylvia. For several years he claimed that she had died, but it is later revealed that she left him, and is now married to a wealthy plastic surgeon and living in Boston.

Roy is dishonest. Examples included forcing a customer who has just ordered a large meal from Helen to board the plane immediately, and then stealing both the meal and the money the customer leaves for Helen. He also established false charities including one for his "late wife" and using the proceeds for fly-fishing trips or to subscribe to the Playboy Channel.

Roy has an autographed picture of Richard Nixon in his office, and was once arrested for trying to force his way aboard Air Force One to have a picture taken of himself shaking hands with President George H. W. Bush.

While normally conniving and arrogant, Roy does have a sense of fun: since his birthday is February 29, 1948, a leap year, he celebrates it only once every four years as if he were only a quarter of his real age. He drives a purple El Camino, on which he claims he can disconnect the brake lights in order to engage in insurance fraud by being unintentionally rear-ended by people in luxury cars.

Antonio Scarpacci

Antonio Scarpacci

Antonio is an Italian immigrant from Alecchio, who owns and operates a taxi service to and from the airport. Antonio is mild-mannered, deferential, and hopelessly romantic; he falls head-over-heels for Helen's older sister Casey when she returns to Nantucket, although his feelings are not reciprocated. Antonio was originally a waiter (he had changed professions). Helen married him in order to save him from deportation. The marriage mistakenly lasted for three years (unbeknownst to either one of them) long after Antonio got his green card due to an error on Helen's part. He is a big fan of the Mary Pat Lee Show.

Casey Chappel/Davenport

Casey Chappel/Davenport

Casey Chappel/Davenport

Helen's older sister who's husband left. She's not very used to her new life being on her own, so for awhile she stays with Helen. She used to have a rich lifestyle before having to find a job eventually at a travel agency. She doesn't notice Antonio's interest towards her and develops a friendship with Brian even though they had their own affairs causing Joe's house to burn down. When she met with her ex-husband for the first time after he left, she was so angry at him for he wanted to keep the money to himself that she tried throwing him and the money overboard from the boat.
