Toad is a faithful hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. Once the loyal servant of the Princess, Toad is a strong and proud member of the Toad race. He once saved the Kingdom from the tyrannical Wart, after traversing the levels of Super Mario Bros. 2 !
Luigi is the famous Mario's younger twin brother. He is taller and jumps higher than Mario, but he gets less traction with his feet. If Mario is ever missing, you can be sure Luigi will be there to find him! Luigi debuted in the original Mario Bros. game as the second player.
Metal Mario got his start in Mario Golf, where his strength is higher than even Bowser's. He is one of Mario's many rivals along with Shadow Mario. He is quite mischievous in the Kart series, and is also very competitive!
Koopa Troopa is one of many turtles who are often under the service of Bowser or his kin. Their shells are used as weapons in the Kart series, and in Double Dash there was even a red-shelled Koopa Troopa. These turtles are no slowpokes!

Ludwig was once third in line to the throne, until later being placed as a minion under the service of Bowser. He was then given Castle #4 in Super Mario World before his defeat. He races with a vengeance, as he wants to prove that he is not someone to be taken lightly!
Wario is greedy, cruel, and exploitative of others. His motives are personal gain and jealousy. Basically he is the antithesis to Mario. He can often be heard cackling as he passes other racers. For Wario it isn't really about winning, it is all about making the race impossible for others to finish!
