For Freddie Mercury's Birthday, He Got An Asteroid
In honor of the late musician/singer's 70th birthday, there is now a planet-like body named after him.
In honor of the amazing superstar that was Freddie Mercury, he's being honored in an extremely unique way: with an asteroid.
Asteroid 17473 is now officially Asteroid 17473 Freddiemercury.
Brian May, Queen guitarist and astrophysicist, made the announcement and gave some background on the asteroid.

May also has an asteroid named for him, making Mercury the second member of the rock band to receive this honor.
For such a superstar, it only makes sense that he'd be memorialized in this way.
Mercury joins the ranks of many other incredible singers such as the Beatles, David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen to have a space rock named after him.
