The widely reported deal to bring wantaway star Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City is off, according to multiple sources.

The Premier League leaders have ended their interest after the clubs could not agree on a fee.

Leicester City reportedly wanted a package (cash and swap player combined) amounting to £95m, a price Manchester City were not prepared to pay for the Algerian.

Where that leaves Mahrez now remains unclear. He has reportedly handed in a transfer request, and has apparently gone AWOL before Leicester's match against Everton tonight.

17.15: CONFIRMED: Hibs defender Fontaine joins Ross County

The Hibs centre-back and Scottish Cup hero Liam Fontaine has left the Edinburgh club to join Ross County, and goes straight into the squad for Wednesday's game against Aberdeen.

He has struggled for game time at Easter Road, where Darren McGregor and Paul Hanlon are the regular starters at the back.

17.10: CONFIRMED: Chelsea sign Olivier Giroud from Arsenal

Another one we've been waiting for... Chelsea have completed the signing of Olivier Giroud from Arsenal for a reported £16.25 million on an 18-month contract.

The French striker becomes the club's third signing of the window, joining midfielder Ross Barkley and left-back Emerson Palmieri at Stamford Bridge, and will wear the No. 18 shirt.

His transfer allowed striker Michy Batshuayi to join Borussia Dortmund on loan for the rest of the season, after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Arsenal earlier today for £56m.

You thought last year's transfer window was one giant festival of excess? You ain't seen nuthin' yet.

The record for the most money Premier League clubs spent in a month was set in January 2011 at £225m.

But this window has already smashed that figure. Man City's signing of French defender Aymeric Laporte for a club record £57m yesterday took spending by Premier League clubs to £252m - and we still have 15 hours to go!

To put it in real world perspective, that transfer brought City's annual spending on defence to £203.3m, which is more than 52 actual countries (The i).

REPORT: Arsenal monitoring Carrasco but no hope for Lemar

Arsenal are keeping an eye on Yannick Carrasco and could be ready to pounce in the summer.

The Belgian winger has not had the most productive season at Atletico Madrid, with Arsenal keen to prise him away from the Spanish capital.

The Gunners have also been interested in Monaco's Thomas Lemar, as have Liverpool.

But both sides will have to wait until the summer after the Ligue 1 club's vice president Vadim Vasilyev said the player is going nowhere this month.

REPORT: Aberdeen target goalkeeper signing

Derek McInnes has targeted a goalkeeper ahead of the closure of the January transfer window.

With Joe Lewis out for two to three months it has left the Dons with Danny Rogers.

McInnes expects to have a goalkeeper in place before Aberdeen face Ross County on Wednesday night.

REPORT: Hibs set to sign Kamberi from Grasshoppers

Hibs are set to complete the signing of striker Florian Kamberi.

The Easter Road side are awaiting international clearance for the striker.

The 22-year-old, former Swiss Under-21 international, has been on trial at the club from Swiss Super League side Grasshoppers.
