11 Most WTF Moments From Kellyanne Conway's CNN INterview

Jake Tapper's face throughout...

1) TIME-TRAVELLING REPORTERS

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

You cited a massacre that didn’t happen and said the media didn’t cover it.

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

No what I said was the media didn’t cover the masterminds.

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

The media did cover the masterminds.

PA
Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

A little bit but again we’re not covering it in terms of the extreme vetting.

PA
The Huffington Post UK

The incident Conway is referring to occured in 2011. It is now 2017. Trump's extreme vetting did not apply when the media was writing in 2011.

2) 'RESPECT' FOR THE TRUTH

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

I guess the problem is it’s very difficult to hear about criticisms from a White House that has so little regard day-in-day-out for facts and truth.

PA
Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

That’s not completely fair. We have a very high respect for the truth.

PA
The Huffington Post UK

The Trump administration has (in two and a half weeks) lied about Iraq, fake news, voter fraud, Muslim bans in other countries, being in the UK the day before the Brexit vote to name just a few - the full list encompasses 42 different topics

3) FAKE NEWS

Are we fake news?

PA
Kellyanne Conway

No I don’t think CNN is fake news.

That's not what Trump said just the day before.

4) THE FAKE NEWS THAT WAS NEVER NEWS

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

A prominent editor of a left-wing outlet emailed me saying he was going to write a story about my tweet on Holocaust Remembrance Day but I wanted to give you the opportunity to respond first. I emailed asking if I had tweeted about that. He emailed back and said: “Sorry, I’m hanging my head in shame, you carry on helping to run the country, that was a fake account.”

Jale Tapper
Jale Tapper say

So the story never ran?

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

Right, but remember because I stopped it. You’re talking about fake news, it’s the presumptive negativity about us.

Jale Tapper
Jale Tapper say

It didn’t run. I can hardly work up much sweat about a story that didn’t run.

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

Hold on, it didn’t run because I got in the middle of it.

I’m glad that reporter did his job and reached out to you before publishing anything.

PA
The Huffington Post UK

As Mr Tapper points out, if it's not published it's not news. The reporter in question, HuffPost's Sam Stein tweeted about the interview.

5) BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE GOOD THINGS HE'S DOING!

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

There’s an article in the Daily Caller that said errors by the media are starting to pile up. It lists six or seven things that are listed as fact but are wrong.

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

How about the President’s statements that are false. You can talk about some jerk with a website but this is the President of the United States saying things that are demonstrably not true.

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

Are they more important than the many things he says that are true that are making a lot of difference in people’s lives?

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

If they distract they do.

PA
Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

If they’re covered they do.

The Huffington Post UK
The Huffington Post UK say

So basically, it's the media's fault for reporting Trump's lies. And as long as they're also doing good stuff then all of the bad things.... LOOK AT THAT CUTE PUPPY!!!

6) THE PUTIN CONTRADICTION

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

A lot of Republicans on Capitol Hill were also upset when President Trump was asked about Vladimir Putin being a “killer” and the President said: “The US has got a lot of killers, you think our country is so innocent?” And then he explained he was talking about US involvement in Iraq. To be clear, Putin is a human rights abuser not to mention curious murders of his political opponents. Is he equating the war in Iraq with what Putin does?

PA
Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

No, he’s just answering the question as asked. A lot of this stems from the fact that there just seems to be charge and accusation after charge and accusation that somehow President Trump and Vladimir Putin are BFFs. That is not true.

PA
The Huffington Post UK

Erm... we'll just leave this here...

7) THE TERROR PARADOX

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

The White House released a list of attacks [Trump] was supposedly referring to that, in his words, were “not even being reported”. I want to put up some footage of CNN reporters covering the attacks on that list. I spent two weeks in Paris in 2015 reporting on the attacks.

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

CNN and other media organisations cover terrorism all the time, saying that we don’t cover terrorism – that’s just false.

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

I think he’s making two points here. One is that we just can’t allow ourselves to become inured to terrorist attacks, to see it as the new normal.

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

And so if we’re not covering all of the many different attacks, that they’re all ISIL-inspired attacks.. we want people to realise then that’s what leads him to want extreme vetting from seven very narrowly prescribed countries in a very temporary way.

PA
The Huffington Post UK
The Huffington Post UK say

So Trump doesn't want us to become inured to terrorism and the way to do this is to extensively cover every single terrorist around the world but only the ones committed by Islamic extremists...

8) GET YOUR PRIORITIES RIGHT AMERICA!

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

Number two, according to the Tyndall Report and other sources, we have inordinate coverage on candidate Trump during the Republican primary, five times as much coverage on him than these terrorist attacks and frankly more coverage by the major networks of Prince’s death.

PA
The Huffington Post UK
The Huffington Post UK say

That's right - Americans were more concerned with the death of a music icon than say, when an military airport in Egypt was attacked in 2015 resulting in absolutely no casualties. How dare they.

9) THE 'OTHER' TERRORISM

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

And while we’re on the subject of not addressing a terrorist attack, I want to ask you, in Quebec City last week a white, right-wing terrorist opened fire on a mosque filled with innocent men, women and children. Six people were killed. President Trump has not said one public word abut this. You want to talk about ignoring terrorism? Why hasn’t the President offered his sympathy to our neighbours in the North?

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

I know he’s sympathetic to any loss of life. It’s completely senseless and it needs to stop regardless of who is launching the attack. We of course are very sad at loss of life here and he’s talking about trying to stop terrorism and trying to stop people do harm to this country.

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

I will ask him. He doesn’t tweet about everything.

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

He tweeted about an attack at the Louvre where no one was killed, I don’t understand why he wouldn’t tweet when six Canadians were murdered except for the fact the undercover document the White House distributed last night did not mention any attacks other than those committed by Muslim terrorists.

PA
Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

You’re right, if you look back at [the Orlando nightclub massacre perpetrator] Omar Mateen was born on this country. But I’m glad we’re all in agreement it seems that this is an issue that will continue, that this President says, whether it’s the lawsuits currently pending, the hearing tonight or litigation on the merits, he believes his executive order is not just within his authority...

PA
The Huffington Post UK
The Huffington Post UK say

WOAH!!! Hang on a sec! We didn't agree on anything, we were talking about Trump ingoring terrorist attacks committed by white extremists.

10) MADE-UP MURDERS

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

What I’m getting at is there’s a wider campaign by Trump and the White House to undermine the credibility of everybody in the media except for certain supportive outlets. Today he said the murder rate was at the highest level for 47 years and no one in the media is reporting on that.

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

There’s a reason nobody reports on that - it’s not true.

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

Well if I can take the broader issue of our relationship with the media I’m among, if not the most open press person in the White House ... I’m now being attacked by the media. I’m just going to keep soldiering on.

The Huffington Post UK

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

You’re not addressing what I just talked about.

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

Everyday there are these sprays of attack and sprays of falsehoods coming from the White House. It would be better if they were not coming from the White House, for me and for you.

PA
Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

Agreed, and let me just say it has to go both ways. I do, Jake, I sincerely don’t see a lot of difference in coverage from when he was a candidate and when he became the Republican nominee, the president-elect and, indeed the President. Some outlets, some people still cover him the same way and I don’t think it shows much respect for the office of President.

PA
The Huffington Post UK
The Huffington Post UK say

Translastion: "He is President so do as he says regardless."

11) THE DATA

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

I think I was handed a factsheet that I think the President was referring to when he was discussing the [US murder rate]. We have had an increase from 2014-15 in rapes, murders and assaults

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

Yeah, I said that.

Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

He may have heard that about a particular city.

Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper say

But it’s FBI data - to say there was a spike in murder rates between 2014-15 is true but to say it’s the highest murder rate in 47 years and the media doesn’t report it. Again, the media doesn’t report it because it’s a lie. For the President to say that - I can’t even wrap my head around it.

PA
Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne Conway say

I think he is relying on data and I don’t know who gave him that data.

PA
The Huffington Post UK
The Huffington Post UK say

You might want to find that out - just a suggestion.
