Location

As many expected it was confirmed that Supergirl would be moving their productions from Los Angeles to Vancouver. This is where The CW's other DC shows film and is frankly a much cheaper filming location. It will be interesting to see how season two will differ visually from season 1 as Vancouver and Los Angeles obviously have very different climates and appearances. Switching studios may also mean a change in sets so season 2 might have a completely different feel to it.

Budget

In order for the show to fit comfortably on The CW, some adjustments will need to be made to the budget. We already mentioned that the show will be moving its filming location to Vancouver and this should help cut costs significantly. However, the show is known for showcasing various alien beings and wowing viewers explosive fight scenes and special effects. All of which would've been quite costly for CBS so it's unclear under the new CW budget how these effects will come to life. The CW has done a great job with special effects on its other DC shows so no doubt fans will still be impressed by Supergirl.

Season Length

Season 1 of Supergirl was 20 episodes long but it was confirmed that season 2 would got a full order of 22 episodes. This means the show should be right in line to finish around May with all the other CW shows that start in the Fall. While it might not seem like much, two more episodes means over an hour of content space that wasn't possible last season.

Crossovers

If there is one thing the CW loves it's cross over episodes between its superhero shows. Last season on CBS fans were treated to a surprising Flash/Supergirl crossover episode. Overall it was received really well and Barry Allen's arrival in National City was a great change in dynamic. With all 4 shows filming in Vancouver and on one network now, crossover episodes will no doubt be easier to organize and manage. Although there are some logistical issues with doing more crossover episodes, seeing as Supergirl exists on different earth then the other DC shows. I am confident that the writers can find a way to make this happen.

Cast Changes

While no major casting changes or exits have been announced, there have been rumours circulating about Cat Grant's ( Calista Flockhart) role next season. Last season Kara's boss quickly became a rather unexpected fan favourite and one of the most entertaining characters on the show. However, with the move to The CW and Vancouver, there is uncertainty surrounding how often fans will see her character next season. Not to fret though, she is almost certainly returning just probably as a more recurring character.
