Reasons I Fell In Love With Orphan Black

What's not to love!? I just finished all four seasons and so here are few of my favourite things about this cool show.

Tatiana Maslany.

As I'm sure every single person who has ever watched the show remarks, the acting is phenomenal - it truly is. Tatiana Maslany flawlessly embodies more than 10 different characters - with multiple interactions with herself in the same scene! It is especially awesome when we see scenes where Tatiana is acting as one clone character, who is trying to disguise as another clone character, whilst still having some of the same mannerism as the first clone! She does such a convincing job of it too!

Clone dance party!

This was the perfect way to end Season 2!

Humour

There is humour all over this show, from Felix's hilarious side comments, to Alison's comedic soccer-mom personality or even to Helena's complete lack of social awareness. Krystal Godrich also comes in as a golden character with her explanations that are so far fetched that they make me laugh every time.

4

LGBTQ+ Representation

Straight away in the first episode we see Felix openly gay, happy and not discriminated by the other characters for it. Then you have Cosima, the clone who is both smart and a lesbian, and whose relationships are deep and meaningful and not hyper-sexualised. You even see the appearance of a Tony the transgender clone - and here Felix quickly corrects Art on the pronouns and there is no more fuss about it. Even the leading character, Sarah Manning, is a bisexual. It's really exciting to see such a cool show fully embracing LGBTQ+ characters!

5

The science!

Although I'm no Einstein when it comes to science, the science element to the show is really fascinating. It's awesome to witness a character who is a scientific clone creating a cure to her own genetic faults - it also sparks a curiosity in me about what we can actually achieve in the modern world of science!

6

The mother-daughter relationship between Sarah and Kira

I love the caring relationship Sarah has with her daughter, it brings out such a tender side to her character and shows you who Sarah actually is behind her tough exterior. I also love how reckless Sarah is when it comes to saving Kira from anything - she would fight to the end of the world for a daughter. Plus Kira is pretty cute too!

7

Britishisms

Now this is fairly biased since I'm from Britain myself, but I really like the London accents that Sarah and Felix have and some of the sneaky colloquial words in some of their lines. Of course, I also appreciate the very Irish Mrs S, who offers tea in any and every situation.

8

Helena's character arc

I really love looking back at season one and comparing Helena how she is now to who she was then. At the Hendrix's she was almost civilised and ready to move on from her murderous ways and it's hard not to love the way she feels for her family - her 'sestras' and her babies.
