Romance

It has many incredible love stories. You will definitely get invested in one if not all. There is of course the main love story between nurse Sarah Adams and wealthy but humble George Bligh. These two almost got married if it wasn't for Sarah's dead husband to turn up alive. Well the husband is dead 'again' but George married his evil late wive's sister Regina. So yeah... these two star-crossed lover don't have any luck.
Then there is of course Anna Bligh (George's daughter) and Gino, typical rich kid falls in love with the stable boy. Well Italian farmer's son but still, same thing. They are married but maybe their class different is still an issue not to think lightly off. The one I'm particularly fond of is that of Carolyn Bligh, George's avant-garde woman of the world, sister. Carolyn and Jack, a small time country doctor, were in love when they were teens, Carolyn got pregnant, went away, her baby (Anna) got adopted by her brother and his wife and that was their story. Until now, 20 years later. Everything is out in the open and Carolyn and Jack never stopped loving each other. But this is no happy ever after yet, their happiness might be destroyed by Sir Richard.

Costumes And Setting

Everything looks gorgeous on this show. The suits, dresses, houses, hairstyles, landscapes etc. It's all very colorful and well put together. A vision for your eyes.

3

Progressive Storylines

Yes this is set in the 1950's but it's by no means old fashioned. This show tackles some real big issues as homophobia, antisemitism, class differences, women rights etc. It's not afraid to show what life was like in the 1950's and how ruthless it could be for people who were 'different'. Whether you are a gay man stuck in a loveless marriage or an independent unmarried woman living on her own.

Love To Hate Characters

A Place To Call Home has some of the best devilish characters ever. First of all, there is Queen Bee Regina, or as some like to call her, Evil Cow or Bitch. She does not shy away from anything to get what she wants, not even murder. What she wants is George Bligh, his love, his money, his estate. In the first seasons, pre Evil Cow, we loved to hate Elizabeth Bligh. The stoic heartless matriarch of the family. After a while we learned to not hate but love Elizabeth. We saw more of her backstory and the hard life she lived. We began to understand that all she did was out of love, even if it was hard to believe sometimes. Elizabeth has soften and we all adore her now. Then there is Sir Richard, a first class asshole. We are hoping this guy will get punished soon for what he did to Carolyn.

The real life cast consists of Australians and New Zealanders. All lovely people who are big names down under. Whenever there is a fan event they show up and always seem so grateful to the fans for keeping this show alive and loving it so much. They love interacting with their fans and are all very approachable and humble. We love this cast!
