Now here's something which comes before any of those activities you desire. What is the goal of all those activities? My purpose, or so I thought early within my career, was to maneuver up to and including nicer house and have my first house become my first rental property. Well, I was in the Coast Guard and wouldn't you realize, three months later we moved. Uncle Sam took me out of St. Petersburg, Florida and dropped me in Kodiak, Alaska, for my next tour of duty.
Well do you know what? I was armed with ambition, courage, confidence and adequate knowledge to be considered dangerous, so I bought a duplex the moment I came ashore on Kodiak Island. Now I'd three dwellings and my relationships and responsibilities were growing with my new tenants relying upon me to offer a clean, functional and pleasing environment to allow them to exist in.
It appeared to be this: My mother rented my first house and an aged couple rented the second one and my duplex came having an existing tenant who was a hospital administrator, so I was lucky. I understand why I'm not really a millionaire and here's why. I'd periodically sell property that was rising in value and spending money on itself through the rent checks. But being in the Coast Guard would dislocate me every four years, so I discovered myself selling out to be able to avoid being what's called "an absentee landlord."
