Pick out ideas for furniture even before building plans begin

Before building a new home for yourself, pick out the designs, colors and furniture all before drawing up plans. This will lessen stress and save a lot of time. Get those plans to where you wan't them and research discount items around locally or the internet is always a great place to find deals. Look for discount furniture, paint, tiling, countertops the works and believe me doing this first and writing down all of your plans will help greatly!

If you have people to help you move dont pay professional movers

If you have the people to help you with your big move let them and pay them instead, moving companies can charge you an arm and a leg to move stuff when family and friends can do just the same. Especially if it is a close move that is easier for friends and family to help. Also consult grocery stores and department stores for any boxes they are willing to part with, but please please please do not pay for boxes that's just silly! Find out how much you'll have to move in the first place and then price out how much you will pay your personal movers. Say you have 40 boxes and 10 movers pay each $15 to do the job now say it takes over 3 hours to move maybe make it $20 per mover that is fair so $200 to help them help you move that's pretty reasonable seeing as some moving companies charge $20 an hour and depending on your valuables may charge more which can become pretty costly and this number is if you even will need 10 movers you may only need 5 or so to help depending on how much stuff you have. Other ways to pay friends and family without cash is to make them a nice meal, buy drinks or have a good old fashion cookout if its nice.

Get your hands dirty

Now don't get me wrong if you don't know what you're doing find someone who does. Do not start laying tile or putting a shower in if you have no idea what is going on. Have someone who is professionally trained to do this. However you can do simple jobs like putting in windows, lay carpeting or paint/wallpaper. Doing a lot of your own work to your new home will save you thousands of dollars. So have someone close to you who knows what they are doing do the hard jobs and you can do some of the simpler ones. It can be hard work but it can also be quite gratifying to complete most of this on your home.

Look for sales on things like lighting, Carpeting, and Paint!

Really do your research online. Look around at local hardware stores for discounts and deals on Lighting fixtures, Paint, Carpeting, Countertops everything really. Places like Menards, Home Depot, Lowes usually have great deals on all. Here is a great example on a countertop that is all ready just needs to be installed and for a great price and is beautiful.

5

Always have communication with your Builder

Tell your builder everything you need for this house being built. Whether it being something small like I need the carpeting put in this way to something big like I need the structure of the house to look this way any details need to be spoken to the build.

6

Research your builders thouroughly before hiring

If you do not research your builder you could get someone who may charge you thousands of dollars just for small builds and then try to charge you again twice as much for the bigger builds. Bad, Bad, Bad and of coarse make sure they are even certified to be able to build in the first place. It happens more often than you think that builders do not even have permits and will cost you more in the end to clean up their mess, so research them, ask around, if they're on websites read comments on their work do it all it will save you.

7

Always salvage materials

Say you have some left over wood. Use that for making a table, a desk, it doesn't matter as long as it's there use it. Or extra carpeting, granite use it it will save you so much money.
