Kendall Jenner's New Pepsi Ad Is Sparking Controversy

In a new Pepsi ad, Kendall Jenner, playing herself, becomes distracted by a protest during a photo shoot and joins the group, soda in hand, finally offering one to a police officer in a lineup, who accepts it with a smile, as Jenner returns to the crowd, which primarily, by this point, has just turned into a sort of dance party. Many have noted the similarity between the shot of Jenner handing the Pepsi to the police officer and a photograph taken of Iesha Evans, a first-time protester who was arrested by police in Baton Rouge during a Black Lives Matter rally in honor of Alton Sterling, who was shot and killed by police.

Pepsi claims the advertisement is not meant to be an appropriation of the Black Lives Matter Movement or to mirror the imagery of Evans in Baton Rouge.
This is a global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony, and we think that's an import message to convey.
