The Obamas recently announced their decision to donate $2 million of their own money to summer jobs programs in their home city of Chicago. According to Barack Obama:

One of the things that we’ll be starting this year is Michelle and I are personally going to donate $2 million to our summer jobs programs here in the community so that right away young people can get to work and we can start providing opportunities.

He also announced their plans for the Obama Presidential Center, which will be a 200,000 sq ft campus near Chicago's historically African-American Woodlawn and Jackson communities on a lagoon on Lake Michigan. The $500 million center will consist of a library, a forum, and a museum, but according to Barack Obama, it will also be much more and will also focus on criminal justice reform and education opportunities for underprivileged kids.

More than a building or museum, the Obama Presidential Center will be a living, working center for engagement — an ongoing project for the community and world to shape what it means to be an active citizen in the 21st century.

In addition, Obama paid tribute to his wife in announcing plans for the Center, saying:

[The center will] train the next generation of leadership, the Michelle Robinsons of today.
