Priscilla Chan, wife of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, was just awarded the 2017 San Francisco Visionary of the Year Award for her philanthropic work in education and medical research. She and Zuckerberg recently donated $120 million to San Francisco Public Schools and $75 million to San Francisco hospitals as part of their pledge to "end disease" by donating $45 billion over the course of their lifetimes to research that will cure, manage, or prevent all diseases by 2100.
During her acceptance speech, Chan said:
I feel so grateful to have the opportunity to give back. I will spend the rest of my career trying to make San Francisco and the world a little bit better.
