Getting into the right mode.....

Importance of a transition

At the start of a mindful movement session, it is helpful to get the client into the right frame of mind. The client may have been having a tough day, or just had a stressful time getting to the session.

It is important to transition into the type of mental focus required for mindful movement.

Strategies for a good transition to start the session
Choose an initial activity that is easy to understand, and easy to perform. It should also be fairly short to prevent boredom.

Here are some examples:

  1. Lay on your back with hands on your belly. Notice the rise and fall of the belly with each breath. Count 6 slow breaths
  2. Stand up. Slowly lift the arms up in the air and you rise on your toes. Slowly lower the lower the arms down as you come back down onto your heels.
  3. Lay on your back and lift knee and opposite arm. Lower them down. Repeat on the other side. Repeat 10 times.
