Staff secretary Rob Porter resigned in disgrace after allegations arose that he had assaulted two former ex-wives hit hit the papers. The media frenzy around the allegations caused much turmoil inside the White House after they initially, and emphatically, supported Porter before an about face.

It's now being reported that the White House knew about the allegations long before his abrupt departure. During that time Porter was even considered for a promotion to the position of deputy chief of staff. Now, FBI director, Christopher A. Wray, has called into question just what the White House knew about Porter, and when.

Testifying on Capitol Hill, Wray threw the official White House timeline on its head by contradicting the statements of top officials, some of which already contradicted each other. Wray noted that the FBI sent over their initial report on Porter back in March of 2017, several months earlier than what the White House claims.

It has also surfaced that Mr. Porter's two ex-wives had interviews with FBI agents all the way back in January of 2017, noting the abuse they suffered while married to Porter.

During his testimony, Mr. Wray stated that the FBI provided the White House “a completed background investigation" back in July of 2017. A follow-up inquiry request was made and the agency provided additional information by November of 2017.

Wray also stated that the FBI had “administratively closed” their completed background check on Mr. Porter in January of 2018, several weeks before the allegations against Mr. Porter surfaced in the media.
