Live bait, dead bait, artificial scented bait, or plastic: Vote for your favorite in the poll below!

For ages we have all gone back and forth on which bait works the best. I grew up fishing with my Dad and PaPaw who taught me one simple rule... Use what they'll bite.

During the day it might be live minnows under a bobber fishing around submerged brush. That same night it might be jigs down 15 to 17 ft. under the lights of the Crappie House.

I've always had fun with my boys and now my granddaughter walking the bank with a small bobber and a plastic jig.

Now days I'm really liking the "Pink Phantom" jig fished on a 1/32 oz. jig head tied with a loop knot for vertical fishing. Adjust the float or bobber until you find the strike zone!

What really matters is getting out there and going fishing. Take the kids with you, a few hours outside and being active will do them nothing but good. It's good for you also and let's you interact with them on a different level in a different way...
