Stress, Stress, Stress...

I heard the birds chirping that morning. It reminded me the beginning of another stressful day. Hastily, I got up, left the bed, and ran to my kids. I had to push them hard to get ready for the school. Finally, they left but without eating breakfast properly.

Sipping over the morning tea I was worriedly thinking about my kids' behavior these days. I found them reluctant to attend school; neither were they concentrating on studies nor were they interested at all in playful activities. All through these days they were waiting to get the chance of sitting with video games. I finally realized these video games were affecting their educational as well as personality development skills.

Searching for Cure!!!

Though it was stupid of me to allow them to freely play video games, now I decided, without wasting a minute, I will definitely find a cure to this problem. I surfed through Internet, and I couldn't just believe this can be the solution. It was always there but how come I didn't notice it. My entire childhood I spent playing board games, which had developed my STEM skills, decision-making, social space, creative world, but when it came to my kids how silly it was of me to encourage them with cartoons and video games.

It was afternoon. I didn't delay anymore. Just finished my lunch and ran to the toy shop near my house. There was a huge collection of brand new board games as well as the classic ones. It became a tough choice for me. What should I pick? Will my girl like this? If I take this, my son may feel bored. Finally, I picked four, each of a different type. I thought we can try each fun board game in different times.

Applying the Therapy

I reached home on my toes. My kids were already back from school.

“Mama, where have you been?” the girl asked.

I thought this is the right time to lure them to play board games. I replied, “Look babies! What Mama has got for you?”

Both of them came running. After discovering what's inside the parcel, they didn't seem to be interested. I understood it's going to be a tough job for me.

I instructed them to sit with homework. They, as expected, reluctantly nodded.

Once they finished, I told them, “Mama and Papa will join you today in play.”

I could sense the joy in their heart thinking of playing with parents. But when I uttered board games they replied it as boring. I convinced them somehow and they agreed.

I gave them the choice which one they would like to start with. To my surprise, they picked up an unusual, brand new one.

I guessed the vibrant, colorful, anime get up of the board game attracted them so much that they started that evening and till now they have been playing. My kids are now so fond of board games that they keep on playing with these during leisure hours. You will find a plenty number of fun board games available in the market with different interesting themes, which leave you with enough choices to select from.

Some days back I heard about an interactive board game, “A Squirrel's Life” that is going to be launched soon. This family-friendly game will take you to the animal world of tree squirrels. I was surprised to know that Randy Hecht invented this game after he got inspired from his experience of rescuing a tree squirrel once. Do you know he is an aerospace engineer? It's his animal loving nature that he is happy to donate a certain percentage of proceed to local animal charities. You can get to know more about the game from here. I want my kids to play this game as it is educational and will develop their STEM and negotiation skills. Plus, it makes me feel good to support the creators of this board game, because they’re giving back to the community in a positive way.

Finally the Cure

I also didn't push them to do anything else in their leisure time because I gradually noticed them improving a lot on their STEM skills. They have now become more independent and creative. The best part is they now feel more confident and take right decisions on their own. I am really grateful to this board game as it has proven to be so productive for my kids. The bonus is every morning seems to me so beautiful now – I no longer feel stressed out. Finally, my kids are back on the right path. I can't explain what a relief this is!

For You

If you want to grow your kids' skills, board games are going to give you a perfect solution. It's a must try for every parent who wants their kids to be smart. In playful manner you can teach your kids a plenty of lessons that will guide them all through their journey in life.
