Possible Reasons Why Your Kids Might Need Braces

Braces? When you tell your kid that they are going to get braces, he or she might be so happy to hear that they are going to fix up his or her teeth and something he or she might not like the idea.

Your kid may be a little bit scared of the idea of having them. I can tell you that your child does not have to be scared and you as the parent can also relax because it is not that bad

Reasons why your child might need braces:

• Crooked Teeth
• Teeth overlapping each other.
• Teeth are to crowed on one spot in the mouth.
• Have a bad bite, known as malocclusion.
Malocclusion is very common in children. Malocclusion is where there is a very big difference in the size of the top teeth and the bottom teeth. There are two differences, one is when the upper jaw of your kid’s mouth is larger than the bottom jaw and this is called an overbite. The second one is where the bottom jaw is larger than the top jaw and this is called an under-bite.
There is no age set for the first visit to an orthodontist. Ages vary for the first visit, some kids are 6 years and some are 10, where others are in their teen years. So, does not matter how old your child is. Additionally, there are even some adults that see an orthodontist. Most orthodontists say that kids should come and see them when their first permanent teeth are out. That is usually at the age seven.
It does not mean that your kid is going to get braces right after the first visit. Yet, going at a younger age is better because the orthodontist will be able to know at what age to put in the braces. Braces need a lot of looking after so giving it to a child that is too young to be able to look after them is not going to work.
First visit to the orthodontist

In the first visit, the orthodontist will examine your child’s mouth. They may also ask some question like does your child swallow and eat with any problems.
He or she will also ask your child to bite with their teeth together, the orthodontist might even take an x-ray to see what teeth still need to come out if there is still any left. A mold or impression will also be made and that will help the orthodontist decide which devices will work and do the job.
The average time for wearing braces is two years. After two years, your child may get a mold that will just help keep them in place as there is still a chance that they might move a little bit back. The mold is made of a plastic with small wires in it. Thus, it is a lot like a mouth guard.
For a beautiful smile, it is best to correct your child’s teeth while they are still young. Talk to your dentist and know what is needed before it becomes an issue.
