David Moyes

Managed PNE between 1998 and 2002, guiding them to the Second Division title and then to within 90 minutes of the Premier League.
Plenty of talk among the fans about Moyes who still lives in Preston. Whether he would want to drop into the Championship at this stage or indeed whether he is open to taking a new job after a tough couple of years, remains to be seen.

Graham Alexander

Grezza was a huge fans' favourite during his two spells as a player with North End. Guided Fleetwood to promotion from League Two and is now managing Scunthorpe. Was in caretaker charge at PNE after Phil Brown was sacked in 2011 but Graham Westley got the job ahead of him. Would be a popular choice with some supporters but hasn't managed in the Championship.

3

Billy Davies

Another ex-PNE manager whose name always does the rounds when a Deepdale vacancy crops up. The Scotsman divides opinion and has been out of the game for some time now. Twice guided North End to the play-offs in his two years in charge before leaving for Derby.

4

Uwe Rosler

The Fleetwood boss has his admirers having guided the Cod Army to the League One play-off semi-finals in his first season in charge. Managed at this level with Brentford, Wigan and Leeds, with his time at Brentford being the most successful. Recently signed a new contract at Fleetwood which could hinder any interest.

5

Steven Gerrard

The former England and Liverpool midfielder is high in the betting as you expect with such a high-profile name. Was previously linked with MK Dons. He has no managerial experience and is working at Liverpool's academy.

6

Phil Parkinson

Having guided Bolton to promotion last season, would appeal to some North End fans. Parkinson is Chorley-born and was a Preston season-ticket holder as a boy. He would be hard to get out of Bolton.

7

Alex Neil

The Scotsman made an impact in English football by taking Norwich City to the Premier League. He is currently out of work after being sacked by the Canaries last season. A young, progressive manager, although things didn't end well at Norwich.

8

Paul Lambert

Plenty of experience after managing at a number of clubs, most recently at Wolves and Blackburn. Available after leaving Wolves but he will want to give plenty of thought to his next job.

9

Ryan Giggs

The former Manchester United winger always features in managerial betting odds and wants to break into management. Having never played in the Championship, would he have the necessary tools for the job?

10

Nigel Pearson

Has successfully managed at this level before and is on the job market after leaving Derby last season. Distanced himself from the Sunderland vacancy recently and is thinking carefully about his next job.

11

Gareth Ainsworth

The Wycombe manager is another with North End links, having had four different spells at Deepdale as a player. He has done well on a limited budget in League Two with Wycombe but the Championship would present a big step-up.
