Tomato Cage Tree

Two of the most common Christmas-themed sights we'll see this December are trees and lights. Traditionally, lights are placed on the tree, but a great way to combine the two is to have a tree of JUST lights.
Firstly, get a tomato cage and turn it upside down - it will resemble the shape of a tree even at this stage. Then pick up some lights to wrap around it. A good rule of thumb is to have the string of lights 2-3 times longer than the height of the cage, but bear in mind that if you want more volume on the tree, you'll need a longer string of lights.
Starting at the top, wrap the lights around the cage, either standing on the base of it to hold it in place or getting someone to hold it for you. Once you get to the bottom, wrap the plug around the base and then... let there be light!
This is a minimalist yet brilliant design idea, and it's one which will definitely grab attention.

Snow White Porch

A white porch - when you put it that way, it doesn't sound like the most Christmassy, or exciting, of concepts. However, sometimes a white porch can be both Christmassy and amazing.
Tall shrubs at either side of your front door always give your home's entrance a nice look. For this time of year, you can maximise that effect by getting shrubs of white rather than green. When placed in a similarly-coloured setting, they blend in really elegantly with the porch, but also are salient enough to stand out.
Of course, when we say white, we mean predominantly white. The right mix of colour from baubles and decorations will distinguish it even further and, if the entrance to your home looks like this, it's saying to visitors and passers-by: 'We love Christmas here!'

Ombre Sinamay Tree

Another unconventional yet visually stunning Christmas tree design, the sinamay decor is warm and vibrant, while the ombre blending effect allows for a seamless kaleidoscope of colour to run from top to bottom.
The choice of colours, of course, is entirely up to you, although we find that a green to blue to purple pattern, as in the image above, runs naturally and also ticks the box for visual appeal. Simply attach the sinamay pieces to a regular Christmas tree, ensuring that the decor is consistently laid out from top to bottom.
This is a highly creative and also cost effective method of making your home stand out from the crowd this Christmas.

Gift-Wrapped Outdoor Lights

Brighten up your front garden in more ways than one with this most Christmas-themed of outdoor illumination.
The connection between Christmas and presents is long established, and this really fun idea not only feels festive, but it cleverly uses the presents theme for wonderfully heart-warming outdoor lighting. If you want it to stand out all the more, go with a variety of colours for the 'ribbons', as in the photo above.
It's appropriate, it's fun, it's practical and it will really give your home an extra taste of festive cheer this Christmas. Just don't mistake them for actual presents, though!

Christmas Tree Ornament Mobile

This idea is brilliantly creative, gorgeous to look at and completely in keeping with the festive theme for this time of year.
Starting off, hang a mobile frame such as a steamer rack from your ceiling. When that is in place, you can begin hanging the ornaments and decorations on the rack. For the optimum effect, experiment with a variety of colours/decorations and different lengths. Also, to get the shape of a tree, create rings on the hanging frame and hang longer threads on the outer rings.
It takes a bit of effort but the end product is a really classy and clever piece of decoration for your home this Christmas.

Festive 'Burning Bushes'

Does the battle to untangle last year's Christmas lights have you highly strung? Fed up with boxes of bland, brown soil outside your home? Have you been meaning to tidy up the plethora of loose branches and twigs scattered across your lawn?
In one fell swoop, you can eliminate all of these niggling concerns, and in the process create something vivacious for the outside of your home this Christmas. Place your lights on top of the soil and then add in the branches, plus some dried weeds if there are some. The end product is a neat bush with an eye-catching 'burning' effect that becomes all the more pronounced at night-time. It might seem like a rough and ready DIY effort, but it's one that can work to great effect.

Cafe-Style Chalkboard Message

Maybe an array of brightly-coloured lights, baubles and wreaths isn't your thing and perhaps you want to get your festive mood across with words.
No doubt you'll have passed out numerous cafes with outdoor seating which also erect a chalkboard outside the premises to advertise the day's specials. It's not such common practice outside somebody's home, but if it's placed in the right spot and the message on the chalkboard is attention-grabbing, it can work a treat.
An upbeat, festive message written in artistic font gives the impression of Christmas warmth, as does the gathering of logs alongside the chalkboard in the photo above! Extra points for placing it in an area that can be lit up after dark, especially if it's subtle mood lighting.

Tree of Lights on the Wall

Here is another minimalist idea which works really well and is easy to implement. If you live in a smaller residence which doesn't leave much room for planting a traditional Christmas tree, you don't need to go without one altogether. Simply adorn your wall with festive lighting and decor in the shape of a tree and the effect is every bit as striking.
Viewing from outside, the lights will immediately grab attention, especially when they fit the tree shape, and if the wall still feels a bit too bare, there's nothing to stop you from painting a portion of it so that the Christmas tree effect is even more apparent. This is a classic example of how you can have an alternative Christmas tree without having to compromise on room space.

Inflatable Santa & Penguin Palm Tree Decoration

Christmas in Australia differs from most other cultures which celebrate the holiday in that it occurs during summer here. Therefore, this Christmas/summertime combination is rather apt.
Take Santa Claus and a penguin, put them in summery attire in front of a palm tree and inflate them. It's a really fun decoration and it's certainly big enough to catch the eye. It becomes even more distinguished in completely inverting the traditional snowy theme of Christmas by making Santa and his colleague look like they're on a tropical vacation!
This decoration can inflate and deflate quickly and easily, while also coming with the option of internal lighting which is discreet enough to enhance rather than dominate.

10

LED Pyramids

Who says you have to go to Egypt to see captivating pyramids? You can have some right outside your home this Christmas!
Using plastic sheets, cut out three triangles to form each side of the pyramid and then mark out where you want the lights to appear and, from the bottom left up in an N-shape, place a light at each of these marks. Stand the triangles on their base and fold them at their seams until they form a pyramid. Then seal the gaps with electrical tape and place the pyramids outside your home.
By day they give a really cool 'iceberg' effect to your garden or home front. Then, come nightfall, you have sensational multi-coloured pyramids that will surely make your residence sparkle this holiday season.
