27-year-old Oriana Garcia currently faces first-degree child abuse charges and a 20-year maximum prison sentence after she allowed her son to be handcuffed to a chair by his uncle, Jacob Barajas, and beaten to death by her boyfriend, Robert Wilson.

According to police, when an ambulance arrived to take young Jack to the hospital, Garcia sent it away as her son lay dying. And why did all of this happen? Because Wilson suspected Jack of eating a piece of birthday cake meant for his 2-year-old daughter.

Wilson is already serving a 30-year prison sentence for second degree murder, and Barajas now awaits sentencing for first-degree child abuse. Garcia also initially faced second-degree murder charges, but prosecutors agreed to drop it down to the first-degree child abuse charge on condition of her confession.
