19 Rabbis Were Arrested For Protesting Outside Trump Tower

Monday night, 19 rabbis from liberal Jewish group T'ruah Rabbis were arrested while protesting the travel ban against people from seven predominantly Muslim countries outside of Trump Tower.
The rabbis hiked over 50 blocks to Trump Tower, and sat across the road, linking arms and singing Hebrew protest songs along with 200 other protesters. One of the rabbis, T'ruah co-chair Rachel Gartner said of the protest:
Tradition teaches us to be kind to the plight of refugees. We cannot tolerate the executive order that comes from the administration. It’s very painful for us... We remember the St. Louis. It’s eerily reminiscent and it strikes us to our core.

Gartner references the 1939 St. Louis voyage which carried hundreds of Jewish refugees to the United States, fleeing Hitler, only to be turned away. After being asked to move out of the street, police arrested the rabbis on charges of disorderly conduct. Another of the rabbis present at the protest, T'ruah executive director Jill Jacobs, tweeted about the protest, saying:
