Sarracenia

Sarracenia is a genus of plants that trap bugs with their pitchers or pitcher-shaped leaves.

2

Sundew

The "dew" on this plant is inviting to insects, but those droplets—made of a thick, sticky substance attached to the tips of the plant's hairs—are deadly. After landing on the plant's narrow leaves to suck up the moisture, the insect gets stuck in the hairs.

3

Cobra Lily

This plant picks up its ferocious name from its pitcher, which is formed from a modified leaf that looks like a cobra ready to strike. Instead of fangs to attack its prey, the cobra lily draws insects into its sunny pitcher, thanks to transparent windows on top of its trap that work like a skylight.

4

Monkey Cup

These plants typically trap insects, but they've been known to eat much bigger species, including small mammals like mice, rats, and occasionally even birds that come to sip at its pitcher.

5

Butterwort

The shiny leaves on this plant may look inviting to a thirsty insect, but watch out! The butterwort's leaves are covered with short hairs that are topped with a gluey fluid that acts as a trap.

6

Pitcher Plant

A bug is attracted to the plant's delicious nectar, but if a hungry insect crawls too close to the edge, it slips down the plant's slick insides and becomes trapped at the bottom of the pitcher.

7

Venus Flytrap

Its leaves are like trapdoors, drawing small insects in with sweet-smelling nectar. If tiny hairs on the surface of the trap are brushed twice in quick succession, the leaves snap shut in the blink of an eye.
