Double Trouble For Latina Women

Latina Equal Pay Day took place in November to drag the society’s attention to Latina women’s problems in modern USA. Its main aim was to prove that Latina women are underpaid for their work. The conclusion of this social initiative was rather disturbing. Latina women turned to earn only 54 cents for every dollar earned by white men. They turned to be the less paid working force among other groups of women. And discrimination in working sphere is not their only problem.

Cutting Public Health Programs

As it was proposed by President Trump’s Domestic Policy Council, financing of public health programs should be rearranged. In what way? Definitely not in the best one. Trump’s administration suggested to stop financing many social health care programs including family planning. This will hit not only women of color but white American women of low income too. And considering the information above, the strike for Latina women will be the hardest.
Small Salary – Big Problems
Being the most economically discriminated group, Latinas have more difficulties in getting quality health care. This concerns all the health care spheres but birth control is a special one. Family planning services are of extra importance for low-income social groups. Affordable obgyn control belongs to basic social rights of women of any race and nationality. Latina women have to work harder than others to earn enough money for their living. But very often it is still not enough to afford abortion or treatment in a good quality GYN clinic if necessary. Sometimes a woman is the only one who earns money for a whole family. In such cases she has to put her own needs on a lower priority level.
Birth Control Is A Basic Right
The significant amount of such fundamental social problems as crime, juvenile delinquency, drug and alcohol use and many others occur due to poverty. And large families are those that suffer from it the most, especially among people of color. This is the fact that America as a state of equal opportunities should not be proud of. Birth control programs allow socially disabled women avoid many problems that may ruin their lives. There are different reasons for a decision to make an abortion but each of them deserves respect as a woman’s choice. A family can be happy only if children are wanted, planned and will not have to face poverty. Besides, unplanned pregnancy is a serious obstacle for a woman’s self-realization and achieving personal goals.
Make America Great Again?
The previous American President, Barack Obama, included coverage of this service into health insurance.  The so-called “Obamacare” program raised a lot of discussion but it was very helpful for population with low income and socially disabled groups. Trump changed the financing of social health care programs in the way of applying free decision for the employers and insurers whether to finance birth control or not. Any of them can refuse covering it on moral or religious grounds. It is easy to predict how many conservative Americans will gladly do that and how many costs will be lost for these programs. The conservative wing is known to stay traditional about women’s rights. But the society is changing, and discriminating women is not the best tradition to keep. And more, there are many religious pro-life representatives that consider a life of unborn fetus more important than a woman’s life and destiny. So the result seems quite clear and becomes the second trouble for Latina women.

Haters Gonna Hate
President Trump’s treatment upon Latina people is notorious. The same with his disrespectful utterance towards women. Obviously, the prosperity of Latina women bothers him very little. And there is a huge audience among the U.S. citizens that shares his hateful position. Thus, Latina women turn to be discriminated by their employers on various levels. Let us sum up the problems they have to face nowadays due to everything mentioned above.

  1. Nationality discrimination.
  2. Gender discrimination.
  3. Economical discrimination.
  4. Quality health care deprivation.
  5. Violation of reproductive rights.
  6. Lack of possibilities for self-realization and career growth.

Quite a list, isn’t it? A kind of too much for the state that proclaims itself as a land of equality, democracy and great possibilities. It sounds more like great impossibilities. If you are not a white male American, of course.
The Ghost Of Hyde
To crown it all, in 2017 the House Of Representatives voted to make the Hyde Amendment permanent. The Democrats made an attempt to get rid of this restriction in 2016, but now the force is not on their side. Obviously, this amendment is a serious problem for all discriminated groups of women. The state’s duty is to protect rights of its every citizen. The reproductive rights of women and their rights to receive quality health care are not less important than others groups’ rights. Morality is a questionable option that goes tricky sometimes. Family values are moral, and that is ok. But how come that discrimination, judgmental treatment and indifference to people’s sufferings also became “moral”?
What Can We Do About It
Of course, these problem must not be left without attention. Shall we let our state be pushed backwards to repeat the hilarious history? There already exist social initiatives to resist the misogynic health policy in general and to protect Latina women in particular. The Planned Parenthood organization observed this Latina women’s double trouble due to Latina Equal Pay Day mentioned above. Also the Center For Reproductive Rights submitted a demand addressed to Trump’s Administration. Its aim is the revision of newly managed rules about health care to keep birth control available for all women. These initiatives can be supported by action or donation.
Places To Ask For Help
What to do if you are a woman of discriminated group and need abortion but cannot afford it? National Network Of Abortion Funds helps women in America with this. Naral Pro-Choice is an influential advocacy organization that stands for women’s rights. If you need moral support in post-abortion period, there exists Exhale – a group of support for those who are traumatized by this experience. There also exists such thing as National Latina Institute For Reproductive Health that helps discriminated Latina women to solve their problems.
