Hybrids are the result of a cross-breeding between Kepnines and Mutants. In some cases the cross-breeding was purely experimental and was initiated by human studies, and in other cases the hybrids were natural and were the result of a cross-breeding occurring outside the domes. Either way, hybrids have features from both parents and therefore have the ability to resonate and have the power of mutations. However, both these powers are much weaker and are quite unreliable. Physically, hybrids resemble regular canines except with a small resonance horn and with multiple eyes. Hybrids are infertile and cannot produce young.

Mutants are canines who have been injected with a chemical vaguely known as “Elixir” due to its translucent blue color prior to injection. Elixir has a massive impact on a dog’s health and usually results in a physical transformation that mutates the DNA of living creatures and afflicts them with multiple side effects. These side effects behave in different manners depending on factors like the dog’s blood type and genetic heritage, but generally, it gifts a dog with a new, powerful physical ability. However, Elixir also has the tendency to degrade health with sudden waves of nausea, migraines, physical frailty, higher rates of tumors and cancer, and shorter lifespans. They usually live for around ten years.

Summary- A Mutant is what half of a Hybrid is. They look sickly and come with a mutation of your choosing as long as you follow the rules.

Kepnines are an alien species residing in the fungi forests surrounding the three domes that the humans have constructed. They are small and swift, able to move quickly and efficiently through the forest despite the greater gravity. They are mainly nocturnal creatures and are primarily carnivorous. They have three eyes, a single horn, and six legs, and their coats are usually arranged with a dichotomy between a natural shade and a striking, brighter hue. Although they are loosely canine in structure, they have other physical traits which clearly identify them as an alien species, most specifically their ability to Resonate: to send visions, memories, or emotions back and forth to one another through the fungi rhizomorphs beneath their feet. The connection of the Resonance is strong between two Kepnines, but when a resonance is transmitted to a non-alien creature like a dog or human, it is easy to block out. Kepnines usually live for thirty to forty years.

Sparkhounds, more commonly known as “the Sparks”, are a classification of canines which are primarily or fully robotic. If a Mutant becomes a Sparkhound, they lose their mutations in favor of fully-automated, resilient metal parts. The only piece of them that remains living is their brain, which is well-protected in the fluid inside of their steel skulls. Additionally, some parts of their nervous system still remain and the brain undergoes several modifications in order to synchronize body movement with brain and nervous activity. Sparkhounds are multi-purpose and depending on what they were built for, they may have differing abilities. They should not be confused with the Steeltooths, which are purely robotic and contain no organic matter. They usually live for eighty years, but their brains begin to erode even earlier than that.
