Beloved El Salvador Hippo Gustavito Is Being Mourned After His Tragic Murder
The fan-favorite hippo of the National Park of El Salvador, Gustavito, was brutally beaten and wounded and died of his injuries on Sunday. Now, people are calling for justice for the deceased hippo.
The fan-favorite hippo of the National Park of El Salvador, Gustavito, was brutally beaten and wounded and died of his injuries on Sunday. Now, people are calling for justice for the deceased hippo.
Last Tuesday, much beloved El Salvador hippo Gustavito was found seriously injured after refusing to come out of the water in his exhibit at the National Park of El Salvador for an unusual amount of time. After closer examination of his injuries, it has been found that he was essentially murdered, with many deep puncture wounds, lacerations, and bruises, potentially left by weapons such as icepicks.
El Salvador is no stranger to violence, with the highest murder rates of any country on Earth. More than 5,278 homicides were reported there last year. But many consider the murder of Gustavito to be especially gruesome and cruel.
Here we’re used to seeing the dead every day. They kill us like flies, but this tops it all. They killed an animal that only entertained us.
