Know your terms

Sugar can be called a lot of different things. There are lots of different ways added sugar can be listed on ingredients labels such as:

*sucrose
*glucose
*fructose
*maltose
*fruit juice
*molasses
*hydrolysed starch
*invert sugar
*corn syrup
*honey

Skip the Ready Meals

A lot of ready meals or prepared sauces actually can be packed with sugar, so try to make your own sauces at home if you can.

3

Ditch the Juice

Cans of soft drinks and fruit juices are huge sources of sugar - try swapping to sparkling water, you can flavour it with a slice of lemon and lime or some berries.

4

Go to the Dark Side

Choose more dark chocolate with less added sugar into it, to still have a sweet treat.

5

Spice up your Life

Instead of adding sugar to a sauce or porridge, try a pinch of a spice like cinnamon or some sliced fruit instead.

6

Watch the Ketchup

Although it seems small condiments such as ketchup, brown sauce and sweet chilli sauce, are often high in sugar. Each tablespoon (15ml) can contain around a teaspoon of sugar. Choose reduced salt and sugar versions where possible and if you are at home try making a fresh tomato salsa instead.

7

Try New Tea

Instead of having a sugary tea or coffee try a mint, ginger, cinnamon, or chai tea for a more naturally sweet taste, rather than an added sugar.
