Caerlaverock Castle

Visit this gorgeous pink castle that is straight out of a fairytale! An ideal location to picnic with pals or for a daytrip. Enjoy the beautiful architecture of the castle as Caerlaverock’s triangular shape is unique among British castles. Caerlaverock was besieged and captured on numerous occasions, notably in 1300 by Edward I. Many rare animals and plants live in the castle grounds, which lies next to Caerlaverock Nature Reserve.

While you're there you can learn all about siege warfare by paying a visit to the permanent exhibition, take a look inside Nithsdale Lodging, a remarkable 17th-century residence in the castle courtyard and take a fun fact-finding quiz while exploring the castle.

Crathes Castle is 15 miles west of Aberdeen, the closest train station, where you can get a bus heading towards Banchory for the castle. The entrance to the castle and grounds is via the signposted main drive off the A93. If you travel by bus it is a 1 mile walk from the driveway entrance to the ticket office, café and gift shop. 

Glamis Castle

Ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne, inspiration for Shakespeare’s Macbeth and childhood home of H.M.
