10 Reasons Why Slaughterhouse 5 Should Be Read By All Students

Slaughterhouse 5 shows what truly happens during the war. It doesn't glorify war but shows it has the horrible thing that it is. Vonnegut says that "there is nothing intelligent to be said about a massacre" and he shows why war is such a terrible thing throughout the novel by giving us a view of all the suffering it causes.

Slaughterhouse 5 brings up many emotions throughout the book. It also gives many comedic breaks where Vonnegut makes you laugh. Either due to Billy Pilgrims weird behavior or the repetitive So it goes after serious moments you will always be having a good chuckle while reading this book.

Vonnegut shows the effects of his experience in the war and how his life changed because of it through Billy Pilgrim. He shows how PTSD randomly interrupts his day and also how it drives him crazy.

With all the terrible things that happens to Billy Pilgrim we are able to realize how amazing our lives are. This book shows how much worse our life can be and it is telling us that we should be grateful for what we have because we could be the ones stuck in a train car full crammed full of men like sardines but we aren't and when you read the book you gain an understanding of how lucky you can be when you compare yourself to Billy someone that has been surrounded by tragedy their entire life. "That's one thing Earthling might learn to do, if they tried hard enough: ignore the awful times and concentrate on the good ones."

There are many books that you read throughout middle and high school that you absolutely despise and can't wait till you are finished with it and there are books that you love to where you can't wait to read it in class the next day and Slaughterhouse 5 is one of the books that you can't wait to read. It is a book that you never get bored and you never lose interest of what's going to happen next.

Billy Pilgrim is kidnapped by aliens called Tralfamadorians who tell him many things about the universe. Mostly about time but also about how humans interact with each other. How the Tralfamadorians view time and death is something everyone should take out of the novel. "I am a Tralfamadorian seeing all time as you might see a stretch of the rocky mountains."

Who doesn't love a good challenge? Slaughterhouse 5 is something that will test students because of the timeline of the story not being in chronological order. If you're not paying attention this book can just seem like a tornado came and blew apart an original story and scrambled it around. But when looked at closely you can see into what Billy Pilgrim is thinking and why he believes in the things he does.

There are so many genres and topics in this book it would be impossible for you not to like at least one of them. Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse 5 has time travel, aliens, war, psychology and more.

Slaughterhouse 5 contained elements that I had never seen before in a book or anything. The unique way he splits up time and shows the struggles of PTSD and the suffering of war was something that only Vonnegut could put out for us to read. This story was like nothing i had ever read before and I can also say this is the first time the author told me what was going to happen later on in the story within the first chapter.

During the war Howard Campbell makes statements about the American view of if you are rich then you are smart and happy but if you are poor than you are unhappy and dumb. This makes you think about if you really need money to be happy.
