List: 10 scholarships offered to Veterans and their families

Many foundations offer scholarships designate to U.S. Veterans and their families to help give back to them for their service. The benefits provided to veterans are often not enough to cover the costs associated with being a student. These scholarships are available in an effort to provide some financial aid for veterans and their families during college. Listed below are a few of the scholarships offered.

The Jack E. Barger, Sr., Memorial Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship is offered by the Nursing Foundation of Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1983 with the belief that nurses are great assets to communities. This scholarship is offered in hopes of ensuring quality nursing within communities. 

The American Veterans Scholarship 

The AMVETS scholarship is specifically for spouses of veterans or active duty, national guard/reserves. It has been made possible through a corporate grant from the Lowe’s Companies. This scholarship was created to ease some of the financial burdens associated with higher education.

The Adelante HOPE Veteran’s Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible by The Adelante US Education Leadership Fund. It was founded by the Miller Brewing Company and the Hispanic Association of colleges. The decision to provide financial help to Hispanic students, is based on research showing that they drop out of college more than any other group of students. This scholarship is offered to provide Hispanic students with financial assistance to graduate college.

Women’s Army Corps Veterans’ Association Scholarship

This scholarship is offered to any student who is related to someone in someway, who has been an Army Service Woman. It is meant to reward those who are in good academic standing, have proven to be good leaders and are active citizens in their communities.

War Veterans Scholarship

This war Veteran's scholarship is offered to military personnel on active duty and U.S. military Veterans. The scholarship is offered by the Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association Educational Foundation through contributions made through the AFCEA’s Northern Virginia Chapter.

The Anchor Scholarship

This scholarship is offered by the Anchor Scholarship foundation. This is a nonprofit organization that raises money to help Navy families with college tuitions. Through this scholarship, the foundation hopes to help these families feel appreciated after all they have given to our country.

The American Legion Auxiliary – Non-Traditional Student Scholarship

This scholarship is provided by The American Legion Auxiliary. The foundation began in 1919 and is now the largest patriotic service organization for women in the world. This scholarship is for students who are related to a Veteran and have had their educational career interrupted. This scholarship is meant to help students with their return to school. 

The Military Child of the Year Award Scholarship

This scholarship comes from a nonprofit organization named Operation Homefront. The organization was founded to help military families thrive. This scholarship was created in 2002 in an effort to build strong stable and secure military families. Six students are awarded every year, and each of these students represent a branch of the armed forces.

The Dr. Aurelio M. Caccomo Family Foundation Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship provides assistance for Veterans/guardsmen/reservists who are looking to start or continue with higher education, but do not have the money to do so. The scholarship is funded by AMVETS in an effort to improve the lives of veterans and their families. 

Daughters of the Cincinnati Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to daughters of career commissioned officers in the U.S. armed services. It was made possible by the Daughters of the Cincinnati foundation. The Foundation consists of descendants of Soldiers from the Revolutionary War in order to push for education during a crucial time in the history of the U.S. The scholarship is now one of the biggest ones offered to Veterans and their families.
