Terry Wogan's Best Moments

At the age of 15, Terry moved from Limerick to Dublin — a city that would later present him with his first broadcasting opportunities. However, he'd later note that Limerick never left him.

Wogan married his wife in 1965, at the age of 27. The pair would be together for more than fifty years, having four children.

Already a tenured broadcaster by the late 1970s, Wogan was featured on an episode of This is Your Life. In the style that would later become very popular, Terry was surprised by host Eamonn Andrews while presenting his radio show.

Since its inaugural broadcast in 1980, Terry was a defining figure in the success of Children in Need. Over the course of nearly four decades, the organization has raised more than £600 million to help at-risk children.

A 33-yard putt at a celebrity golf tournament taking place at Gleneagles put Wogan in the record books, for the longest successful golf putt ever televised.

Terry found one of his greatest TV successes in the form of chat show Wogan. More than 1000 episodes were broadcast between 1982 and 1992, featuring memorable interviews with the likes of David Bowie, Fanny Cradock and Nicolas Cage.

Terry was awarded his OBE in 1997, thanks to his extensive work in broadcasting as well as his charitable efforts.

Many Eurovision fans came to greatly appreciate Terry's spirited commentary on the night of the big event. As such, it was only fitting that Wogan should host alongside Ulrika Johnson when Eurovision was held in Birmingham in 1998.

Wogan always retained his Irish citizenship, but also adopted British citizenship in 2005. In the same year, he was also honoured with a knighthood and officially dubbed Sir Terry Wogan.

When Wake Up to Wogan came to an end in 2009, the show had a regular audience of 8 million, making him the most listened-to radio host in all of Europe.
