London's Metropolitan Police has issued new advice on what to do in the event of a Daesh related terrorist attack.
“Run Away as Far as Possible”
That’s the latest advice from London’s Metropolitan Police if Daesh terrorists strike the UK’s capital city. Scotland Yard’s Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley says people should “run away as far as possible and when you can’t run any further, hide, and then tell – call the police because we’ve got the people, the resources, the firearms to deal with it.”
“Stay Safe”
“Stay safe” leaflets were recently handed out by counter terrorism police at busy railway stations across the UK instructing passengers on what to do in a Mumbai style gun attack, which recall events in November 2008 when 10 gunmen armed with automatic weapons and grenades stormed a railway station, a café, cinemas, a hospital and the five star Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel in Mumbai killing a total of 166 people and injuring 300.
The flyer, criticized as 'scaremongering' by critics at the time, showed images of worried-looking people running down flights of stairs, cowering in the dark and anxiously talking on their mobile phones. Other critics compared the leaflets to the “duck and cover” adverts during the Cold War years.
“Run Hide & Tell”

A similar video campaign was later lunched by police advising the public on what to do in a firearms and weapons attack.
“Run if you can. If you can’t run, hide. Then, when you can, tell the police what’s happening so they can get there quickly to stop the threat.”
The video was released a month after the UK’s National Counter Terrorism Security Office issued advice following the terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015.
